He wants Viktor to tell him when he’s feeling badly, to tell him when he needs to be taken care of, not just because he wants to know that Viktor’s all right, but because he wants to know anything about Viktor at all. He’s been wanting to keep himself by Viktor’s side as much as possible even when he wasn’t physically present, even more so now that he’s back. He’s been wanting Viktor, whatever that might be. It’s why, he realizes as he’s kneeling alone in that confessional, he’s been so desperate to know what it is Viktor really does. He doesn’t need the veracity in that, not really, not when he has more pressing concerns about Viktor’s health. But to know what these miracles are is to know Viktor. What Jayce really wants is Viktor. Period.

More than that, though, Jayce sees something else. Jayce sees blood. There are wounds, small bleeding scratches that have pricked into the skin on his forehead, just under his hairline, and are releasing thin red rivulets to run down his face like tears. The stigmata… The wounds of Christ. The holes where the nails were embedded into His hands and feet, the tear where the spear was thrust into His side, the abrasions from the crown of thorns that was forced upon His head.
