Happy Halloween from the MLIS Program! Our students had a great time at SGO’s Escape Room Social, where we successfully completed two escape rooms. This was the perfect event to put us in the mood for the spooky season! 🎃

SLA had a great time touring the St. Paul branch of the Minnesota Tool Library. It was great getting to learn about this non-traditional lending library and its commitment to reuse and sustainability. We were also impressed by the number of fun and free events they host! 🔨
Make sure to join current MLIS student Simon Deutsch as he co-presents tomorrow’s Minitex Webinar! The webinar will focus on a project that Simon completed during his summer Practicum.

We had a wonderful time at the 2025 Minnesota Library Association Conference. Many of our students attended, and several even presented! Stay tuned for more details about their presentations in our upcoming Fall Newsletter.
Our Progressive Librarians Guild had a great time touring the Quatrefoil Library in Minneapolis. We loved learning about the history of this queer library, as well as the variety of community programming they provide! 🏳️‍🌈
The department's Study & Snacks Event was a success, with seven students stopping by throughout the night. We hope to host another study session in late November or early December to prepare for finals, so stay tuned for that announcement! ❄️

Our final student group feature is for our Society of American Archivists student group! This group aims to promote archival work and advocate for archives as a profession, creating opportunities for professional development, archive tours, social events, and volunteer opportunities.
Our student group features continue this week, with the St. Kate’s chapter of the Progressive Librarians Guild! PLG is committed to equal access to information and library services through outreach, education, and social justice activism.
This week, we’re highlighting our ALA Student Group, which is an official student chapter of the American Library Association! ALA supports our students’ development as LIS professionals through programs, events, and service projects.

SLA provides learning and networking opportunities for students who are interested in working as information professionals in non-traditional library settings or other specialized information areas.
For the next five weeks, we’ll be featuring each of our MLIS student groups and their officers. This week, we are highlighting the Student Governance Organization (SGO)! SGO organizes the graduate reception, student socials, trivia nights, and other activities in the program.
We’re kicking off the return of our Alumni Spotlight series by highlighting alumna Tiffany Ly! Tiffany graduated from the program in 2023 and now works as a Systems Librarian for the University of St. Thomas. Read the full profile:

Our summer Making and Makerspaces (LIS 7580) class had a great time touring the makerspace and VR Lab at the UMN Health Science Library! This hands-on course about the maker movement fulfills the MLIS technology requirement. Learn more about our courses: catalog.stkate.edu/graduate/hum...
In LIS 8810 (Advanced Archival Management), recent grad Christianna Fritz worked on a semester-long project to create her own archive. The mission of The Horror Fashion Archive is to collect and preserve materials about the intersection of fashion and horror films. sites.google.com/stkate.edu/s...
