I’ve asked a dozen+ of my friends who work in technical jobs if they use their HS & college higher math and they all say no. Including my sister who programmed and system-designed Visa’s mainframes over decades. (In assembler!) “We mostly just added and subtracted…” Typical people, fuggedaboudit.

Statistics and probability, much? Almost nobody (percentage-wise) uses linear algebra even in their professional life. You can’t watch or read the news competently, OTOH, without some S&P.

A household with $100K spends all its cash income one year; no "saving." But the asset markets go up, and they have $110K — $10K more "retirement 'savings'".

They have more "savings," so did they "save" or didn't they?

Plato on maximum wealth.

I just came across this in The Laws, late Plato in which Socrates is absent. A Cretan, a Spartan, and an Athenian discuss what the laws should be for a new colony. This passage by the Athenian raised my eyebrows. www.gutenberg.org/files/1750/1...

CW: protester being struck in the head by a pepper ball

Footage I took earlier of the moment Reverend David Black, a regular protester outside of the Broadview Detention Center, was shot in the head with a pepper ball by ICE agents on the roof of the facility.
