You’re very welcome! I hope you get to make sequels, because you have set up such a cool sandbox here :)

I recently read DC’s Misfits of Magic by @matthewdowsmith.bsky.social, which stars teen-aged versions of Dr. Occult, Blue Devil, Deadman, and Enchantress. It’s a fun riff on DC’s magic users, and a perfect YA graphic novel for this Halloween season 🎃

Continuing my look at spooky themed books this month, today I look at  DC's Misfits of Magic , which is from the latest series of their grap...

I just reread Golem Pit 224 by @ohmyghoulia.bsky.social and it’s a great graphic novel to read this (or any) month. The emotional and physical quagmires these characters get into makes this book wonderfully weird. I love the tone set by the amorphous panels and earthy coloring as well. Check it out!

I just read Pushing Buttons, a graphic novel by Danish cartoonist Ursula Blix. I loved the artwork and how the story slowly shed light on Margit’s soul-sucking work and relationship with her supervisor/best friend Chloe. I will definitely be looking for more work from Blix and Black Panel Press.
Pushing Buttons
This "futuristic workplace kerfuffle" recently came to my attention via social media, and I was very glad to buy and read a copy.  Pushing B...

I love your Dr. Fate! And your depiction of Inza is throwing off some seriously shifty Richard Sala vibes.

What happened in the last 20s when private businesses got all bloviated? Does anyone remember that?

Fun fact: I went to high school with him. He was a year ahead of me, and we had mutual friends but I did not really know him. He was brilliant back then, too. Small world!

Next up in my great graphic novel catch-up: the first volume of @jefflemire171.bsky.social’s Minor Arcana. It’s features many of the best aspects of his work: strong characters, slow burn reveals, family secrets, and just the right amount of supernatural surprises. So good and compelling!

Big Jim and the White Boy by @davidfwalker.bsky.social and Marcus Kwame Anderson is a phenomenal graphic novel. More than an American classic reimagined, it’s an epic tale of its own that firmly places Jim into US history and culture in a substantial and moving way. I read it a few weeks ago, and it

My great graphic novel catch-up continues with Sunshine by @studiojjk.bsky.social. It’s a book that can make you smile and also shed a tear, showing people with medical conditions that many would typically shy away from. It’s a hopeful, affirming read.

Linda Ronstadt or some Greek music. This one was my favorite. The cassette was red, and I guess I asked for it so much that one day it got “lost.”

My first (that I remember) was Detective Comics #507 written by Gerry Conway, drawn by Don Newton and Dan Adkins. It features a murderer named Manikin who freaked me out.

What was your first Batman comic?
Cover to Detective Comics #507 by Denys Cowan and Dick Giordano. It shows a weary Batman whose costume has rips in it, surrounded by fire. In the foreground facing him is a woman wearing a copper colored costume that resembles a mannequin. She is standing over a pile of burning mannequins. A word balloon indicates she is telling him, “You cannot stop me, Batman! Stand aside or Manikin will DESTROY YOU!” Text reads, “A startling conclusion! Dressed to die!”

I just read Marvel All-On-One by @ryannorth.ca and Ed McGuiness. It’s told all in splash pages, and it’s a fun smash-‘em-up tale that captures the spirit of the bashful, blue-eyed favorite nephew of Aunt Petunia.
Cover to Marvel All-On-One #1 by Ed McGuiness and Mark Farmer. It shows a mass of superheroes rising up to battle Ben Grimm, The Thing, as he punches them all ferociously. In the pile are Spider-Man, Firestar, Hulk, Iron Man, Cyclops, Mr. Fantastic, Venom, Daredevil, Venom, Nightcrawler, She-Hulk, Red Hulk, Black Panther, and Thor. The Human Torch, Wolverine, and Ghost Rider are toward the bottom, falling.
