Luke turns 5 today. He pulled a Shohei Ohtani card and two Roki Sasakis in a Topps pack at breakfast, but he was most thrilled to get a Blue Jay. He picked them as his favorite team earlier this month. He'll grow up looking at this card and knowing Steward Berroa as a Blue Jays legend of his youth.
Great question. To your point, I think, yes, admitting that my son is no longer 4T and putting those clothes in the attic *has* been more emotional for me than any previous size. It's all happening so fast, and he's perfect, and the Ts are piling up.
a ridiculous ranking by unserious people
This is the time of year when free agents hit the open market and future rosters begin to take shape.

Where does each team stand going into the offseason?

the script writers are nailing this season of world series baseball
crazy to see d'artagnan chucking 99 mph
I'd like to set a jinx in motion by saying the Blue Jays winning tonight would make for a maximally fun series. The Jays would have two shots to clinch on home turf, while the Death Star Dodgers would have Yoshinobu Yamamoto in Game 6, and all hands on deck in Game 7.
according to Statcast, most games are over by now
is john smoltz advocating for ... more home-plate collisions?

"don't do heists," he says, craving the next heist
i tell my kids theft is bad, and i hope they believe me, but i read the heck out of every heist story. i thirst for more heists.
I know everyone’s following the Louvre heist but I would like to point your attention to the California LEGO LOOTER

NFL RedZone for baseball?

Much of this year, I've chosen the drinking-from-a-firehose viewing experience of the MLB Big Inning quadbox. All live action, every day of the season. But what is its ceiling? I explored the show's present and future with those who make it.

Can a slow-paced, daily sport still command viewer interest when the closest corollary to a red zone is a runner on third base?

This is the year of the southpaw.

LHP are more than a half-run of ERA better than RHP this season. Lefties make up a quarter of the pitching population, yet they're dominating the ERA and WAR leaderboards. So we asked around: How are they doing this? www.nytimes.com/athletic/656...
A few weeks back, a pitcher asked, "Is this the greatest season ever by left-handed starters?"

The answer, it turns out, may be yes.
