Thank you for another lovely week, Mary!

Today, I'm not going to promote myself. Instead, I wish to promote this hashtag's founder, @chaoticauthor.online, who needs all our love these days. Do check out his works 💝

Haha! He may hang up a few of his favourites. 👀
👀 one of my favourites (from a WIP) is the vampire that skins people in order to “collect” their tattoos… if he’s knocking on my door, I’m in trouble. 🤣

QUESTION FOUR

There’s a knock at the door.

Before you can answer it, the door opens and reveals…your favourite character. They are your creation.

Who is visiting you?
Why are they your favourite?
And why are they here, now?

Linger a little longer for the outro & promo #HorrorWritersChat
I’ve had some very random sources of inspiration; a thumbnail to a YouTube video, the outro to a music video, a quote from a movie, the name of a song.

Can’t think of 4 for a single story or WIP, though… 😬

#HorrorWritersChat
QUESTION THREE

The room includes the media that inspires your writing.
Books. Films. Music. Art.

Share four that inspired your last published horror work or your latest horror WIP.

#HorrorWritersChat
Absolutely! It makes such a difference. I go from touch-typing on my MacBook (use all the time for work) to typing index-finger-only on my PC’s clunky keyboard (which I rarely use).
1. A computer with a familiar keyboard. Keep those typos to a minimum having built up some muscle memory with it. ⌨️

2. A drink (maybe alcoholic). It’s important to stay hydrated. 🍺

3. A lock on the door to keep out those pesky distractions. 🤣

QUESTION TWO

We stand before your writing area #HorrorWritersChat

Which three tools (apps? Items? objects?) do you find useful when writing?

Are there any you’d recommend to other writers?

The stranger the better...
Hey all! 👋

I’m an on-again-off-again writer of (mostly) body and psychological horror.

My dream writing room would be a big, well-stocked library. No distractions, dimly lit, soft classical music playing, and a big spacious desk with a comfy chair.

QUESTION ONE - #HorrorWritersChat

Behind this door is your ideal writing room. 🚪

If money were no object and dreams were reality, this is where you’d write, relax, and conceive of your next great work.

Introduce yourself along with your horror niche, then open the door and describe your space.
I’ll have to keep an eye out! Big fan of clever minimalist covers like that.
I’ve not read it, but that cover is really well designed.
It is. I think I saw recently that the average household has an average of 15 books… 😳

All the more reason to get more. 🤣
How many physical books do you own?

#BookSky 💙📚 #BookCollection

I recently logged all of mine in a spreadsheet (yes, I’m that kind of person), and I was underwhelmed with how few I actually had. I was expecting to be approaching 1k, but I’ve only got 659 and counting.
Haha! Yeah, corporate spiel is the worst. It was painfully accurate to the way a big corporation would try to spin it.
Hahaha! Yeah, that’ll get ‘em. 🤣

Plush was really good (I know that sounds weird given the subject matter, but still), probably one of my favourites.
Oh yeah, if they aren’t attached via a cable, I am 100% losing them within a week. I keep seeing ads for Heavys, and I have to say, I’m tempted. Lol.
Hmmm… I may need to invest in some noise cancelling ones. I’m still relying on a basic pair of in ear ones from three phones ago. Lol.
Thanks Eryn! #HorrorWritersChat

I’d like to give a shoutout to @tlbodine.bsky.social

These Kids Are Not Alright is a great collection of short stories. Some are fun, some are creepy, and some are downright difficult to read (for a father of a three year old).

Yeah, I think it’s the same for a lot of somewhat new tech. I can see how amazing it could be for certain demographics, but it will almost certainly be used and exploited for profit instead. Bleak times ahead, I fear.
Same. The design studio I work in can get noisy, and I can’t even begin to concentrate without headphones.

But when I’m writing at home, I’ll just put something on the tv. Maybe I should try using headphones, even at home. Haha.
I think AI on its own is pretty harmless (it’s just a glorified chain of “if” statements), however, humanity’s belligerent want to use it, even when it’s to our own detriment, will be our inevitable downfall.

Nearly there, #HorrorWritersChat bods. Hang around for the outro when you can throw out all the links. But not yet, my darlings, not yet.
We live in a world that we saw loom in scifi, the rise of AI, but not yet the Terminator... drones, smart devices, Alexa...
So what do you think brings the fear?
