The first serious thing I wrote was a short story for a creative writing seminar in 1973 when I was 16. I loved the story so much that I kept at it way after the class, turning it into a novel, working it, and finally publishing it in 2013.

Consider:
John Carpenter's The Fog is a sequel to Halloween. Poor Laurie, traumatized by the horror of her experience in Haddonfield, IL, runs away, changes her name, and hitchhikes to California only to stumble into boat hooks and bludgeons out of the night.

It occurs to me that the Fantastic Four, with private spaceships, their own skyscraper living quarters, and their Future Foundation, are one percenters and everyone's begging them to protect us.
So what does that say about Marvel and Disney?

The wisdom is that you can't kill the dog. If you kill the dog, everyone will reject your art.
The folks who came up with this ludicrous writing rtule never saw The Thing from Another World or John Carpenter's The Thing.

It doesn't make the movie less terrifying, but the second the howitzer and the M1 tank showed up in Cloverfield, that monster realistically would have had about one minute left to live. Physics is a bitch that way.

The monster movie madness has not subsided. I've The Fog, John Carpenter's The Thing, Cloverfield, the original King Kong, and a few others that escape me at the moment. Still have some Halloween candy and cookies left, too.

We just polished off Halloween by watching The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947) and packing down a metric ton of Reese's Pumpkins, Milky Way Midnights, Mounds, and homemade cookies.

I think I heard recently another idea that there was never any big bang. The thing we perceive as a big bang was just our reality's entry into a black hole, that our whole universe is just the interior of that black hole.🧐

Well, I guess nobody's going there anymore.😢 I don't know why being emotional about this would be cringe. I've NEVER been to the East Wing, and seeing those first photos felt like a kick in the gut.

-People complaining about the high cost of gas while standing next to their 10-mpg giant SUV
-People complaining about the high cost of food as they walk out of Trader Joe's with multiple grocery bags
