A painting I did last winter.
Edward Hopper painted the house next-door. Which is a nice Bed-and-breakfast. The building pictured is cut up into about 10 apartments.

“Talbot Street house, “18 x 20“ or 45 × 50 cm. Oil.
Souvenir from a lovely spot near Port Clyde, Maine. #stephangiannini 8 x 12“ or 20 x 30 cm, oil. #pleinairpainting
Working waterfront, Friendship, Maine. I worked on this one in the studio a bit. You can look back to the location sketch posted August 16 and see what the original composition looked like.
8 x 12“ or 20 x 30 cm, oil.

A portrait study that sat on an easel in my studio for most of the summer. An hour here and an hour there and all of a sudden it was a really lot of hours!
Cavorting with the vampires again. 9 x 12” or 24 x 30 cm, oil. #pleinairpainting #nocturne #nightpainting
Sketching on a warm September day on the coast of Maine. 8 × 12“ or 20 × 30 cm, oil. #pleinairpainting #art #maine
September in Maine. A gorgeous day with a delicious ocean smell. It started off foggy and then got sunny, which is pretty typical. #pleinairpainting#mainepainting
Work in progress. Painting for the Habitat for Humanity fundraiser “Artwork for Humanity”, in Waldo County, Maine. I was told this building is the old Masonic hall. And that there’s a huge ballroom on the top floor with decorative art that can’t be used because it doesn’t meet current fire codes.
View of the house next-door from my backyard. With the laundry hanging this view has been catching my eye for years.
14 x 18“ or 35 x 45 cm, oil. #pleinairpainting
How the world should be. Once a month in Rockland, Maine in the summer they close the main street to cars for the “Sunday stroll.” Did I ever tell you if I was King of the world I would eliminate cars?
10 x 10” or 25 x 25 cm, oil.

If you’ve never been up in Maine you may have no idea how big the movement of the tides are. You can see from the other photos how dramatically it changed while I was painting.

They can be a lot of fun and very dramatic to sketch or paint
Main St. In Rockland closed off today. The Sunday stroll. Happens once a month during the summer. I worked on this for about five hours but so many people came up to me and talked I couldn’t get done. Still had a great time and there was even a sculpture race!

A busy Maine lobster wharf. Lots of cars and trucks pulling up and pulling out all day long. This was hard, I scraped it down several times to change which vehicles were included. Friendly people, everybody giving me a wave.

8 x 12”, or 20 x 30 cm. oil on board.
The Coast Guard cutter Abby Burgess (in the back). The ship is named after a lighthouse keeper who when she was a young woman in 1856 kept her light on through an epic winter storm.

Study of one of my blooming Hosta plants. I planted these Hostas, split them, moved them around. Finally the last couple years they’re really huge and blooming!

The painting feels a little slick, but I enjoyed doing it.

6 x 10“ or 15 x 25 cm, oil on board.
Sketching Camden Harbor this week at the Midcoast Plein Aire Painters of Maine. Watercolor, gouache and ink pen in a Stillman and Birn nova sketchbook.

Now that’s a classic Maine view! There’s actually little access to oceanfront property in Maine because probably more than 95% of the coastline is private property. I’m so grateful there’s a few spots to go that feel wild..8 x 10” or 20 x 25 cm, oil.

A really beautiful spot not that far. Not sure why I chose to paint this house when there were so many other better views. But a nice place to hang out on a drizzly day. You can see how I deal with that with my #bestbrella#pleinairpainting
Still life of some flowers picked from my wildly flowering Hasta plants.

9 × 12“ or 24 × 30 cm. Oil on board. #stilllife #oilpainting #hastas
I think this is the American Eagle, at the North End Marina in Rockland, Maine. I forgot to add the rigging while I was on location! 8 x 12“ or 20 x 30 cm, oil.

These tracks used to have passenger service up to midcoast Maine. Sometimes they’re really close to houses. Good people have been working to bring it back for years, but it seems a long way off.
