‘Well, good luck, sonny. Hate to tell you but the only time ‘real’ comes into it is when they’re shooting at you. In practice, ‘real’ means dead - anything else, there’s always room for some conversation.’

Thomas Pynchon’s book ‘Shadow Ticket’.
‘On days of low winter light the federal courthouse can take on a sinister look, a setting for a story best not told at bedtime, the jagged profile of an evil castle against pale light reflected off the Lake, bell tower, archways, gargoyles, haunted shadows, Halloween all year long.’ #BookSky💙📚

Thomas Pynchon’s book ‘Shadow Ticket’.
I didn’t. Nor Hamnet on Sunday. Money down the drain 😭😭
Family stuff cropped up and I had to skip both. Was gutted but I saw mixed reviews for Hamnet and I noted that you didn’t dig The Mastermind?
I will see them eventually!!
The screwball repartee in this book between Hicks and April is whip-crack sharp and funny as hell. Laughing a lot and wishing that Pynchon had more years left in him… 😍😍😍 #BookSky💙📚

🤣My wife is swooning with relief that we don’t need to find more shelf space…

Right then, one of the biggest holes in my music collection is reggae. I have a few of the obvious ones but looking to broaden my horizons. Post your recommendations below 👇. I’m particularly keen on the heavier dub side of things
Are those UK Criterion releases? If so, I am going to be even more broke than usual in January… 😬
I can promise you that none of my students did either 🤣
It’s my opportunity to get them thinking about filmmakers that they might not necessarily know…
I save that punishment for mid-level offenders.
The real hard cases get forced to watch Satantango, followed by Out 1…
Good effort! More than anybody else today 👍

The answers are (clockwise from top left)

Kira Muratova
Claire Denis
Preston Sturges
Apichatpong Weerasethakul
Mati Diop
Ousmane Sembene
Joanna Hogg
Jacques Rivette
Andrei Tarkovsky
That’s the poster reserved for ‘God-level’ directors…
Two is the consistent number amongst folks so far! I would say that many of us would struggle to recognise directors in the same way that we recognise actors (although I get that Mati is both!).
