I will see if its still there when I go back later this fall. Its in Duluth MN, and the owner who I havent talked to yet is a devout fly fisherman. There is a whole curated section for fly fishing, and hunting.
I saw a copy of La Fontaines Caddisflies at a bookstore a while back but I actually got Bergman’s Trout instead. Really liked reading about some of the revelations he had fly fishing as a youth and as he got older at the boom of the sport. Fishing has vastly changed since then but very good insight.
I’ve accumulated a small collection of fly tying/fishing books. What are some of your favorites?
Sounds like a time to learn from a few of the greats!!
Theres a mention of 2 editors for the book, and a thanks to jack gartside in the beginning. I have yet seen a reference to United Flytyers. I met Rich last year and we talked about striped bass fishing and he gave me lots of good advice!
Picked up secondhand for the library, cant wait to read👍 #flyfishing #flytying
The amalgamation of flat-wing patterns, most complex for me yet. Def needs some work. Steve Culton of currentseams blog really highlights some of the multi feather applications of flat wings. Definitely the biggest head hurter yet. #flyfishing #flytying
The beginning of my problems. #flyfishing #flytying
No, securing the dumbell itself is no problem, just sticking on eyes on the dumbell is annoying and sometimes resin gets in the eye hole. So far the solrez thin has lasted me longer than medium for building the head.
Messing around with half and half flies. Dumbbell eyes are tricky… #flyfishing #flytying
29” got me down to my backing because I was caught off guard. Followed your advice and made my way to the mouth of the inlet with outgoing.
More blurple flatwing variations, was the ticket tonight which unfortunately got ripped up by the guy below. #flyfishing #flytying
Hit a flat midcape and was in the middle of a big pod of striped bass feeding on sand eels, every cast spooked them.
Never tried the flats my bud has told me its real sketchy to wade he fishes from a yak.
No not me, im actually heading out to fish the ocean front for plum island as of now, hoping to catch an early wave of the fall run
I will check it out, thank you!
Hareline Large Northern Bucktail in Bright Purple should net him around 13$.
trying to work on my proportions and overall shape, build of the fly is a lot trickier than tiny simple soft hackles.
____🪽 You will see me spamming variations haha. #flyfishing #flytying
I honestly have not thought about residents stripers and repeat behaviors, I have much to learn. I always appreciate the info you give me.
Always moving tide, Ive really had better success on low tide wading out. I feel like maybe the moon being hidden could affect the fish being around. beaches west of the canal in the bay, are areas ive tried.
Oh man. I have been doing a lot of saltwater for striped bass with little luck. But I also got the flatwing fever, hollow fleyes are cool in all, but I love swinging flies. #flyfishing #flytying
2 variations of a light cahill/pmd with what materials I have. First time trying to tie a dry fly, no dedicated hackle yet. #flyfishing #flytying
The madman inside me cant focus on repeating a singular pattern, so I end up tying a bunch. #flytying #flyfishing
