You still need to know what you are doing with an electronic direct file (I am assuming "fire" is a typo). The app only stops obvious discrepancies. Yes, you are correct, the fillable forms will catch math errors.
Why not? Who stops people from calculating it, I don't know, in June? There are free calculators at IRS.gov and always were. Even if you switched jobs, you still absolutely can calculate, let's say, you excess Social Security withholding.
This is not true. You fill in a W4 form when you are hired. You can re-file this form any time you want. The basic premises are simple. Any earned income is taxable, and here are the tables (and calculators for those who hate tables) to calculate at what rate. Now, paying less is complicated.
