Brigitte Fontaine - Est... Folle🎶🇫🇷

This album needs no introduction, but the 2nd LP is also excellent, with demos, instrumentals & a live radio track. A fascinating 20 page booklet completes a superb job by @wewantsounds.bsky.social. Right up there with the best reissues of 2025

This saccharine Bobby Womack effort is making me wish it was up against “No Sell Out” (albeit that track’s eligibility would’ve been questionable)

Blimey, the nominators make you work hard. Just spent a good 15 minutes doing a compare and contrast of Fonda Rae and Cathy Dennis. And still no closer to a voting decision.

Julia & co = the Amon Duul II of this tournament. Yep, don’t blame me either.

huh so if I’d doubled up on my nom we’d have had another tie? pfft! I felt duty bound to give the Bhundus my bonus though. At least they’re through.

A strong group. Never heard this Chaka at the right speed before ahem. Can kinda relate to Rockwell’s urban paranoia. Staples cover surprisingly faithful (I might nom another Byrne/Staples thing if/when we get to BPHM86). Prefer this Whodini to the other one. Decisions, decisions.

My token mainstream nomination for this poll is Phyllis, with the ultimate end-of-night slow dance.

Derives from the character of Lt. Gorman in the movie Aliens, who ‘had his chance’ and failed.

I feel I ought to be backing Mr T here, but the record is neither good enough nor bad enough. A bit surprised Change don’t have enough streams/ Shazams for the A-sides; means an easy voting decision for once though.

B sides showing up the As today, and having the toughest choices as a result. Could vote for any of Beau (astonished this isn’t on a Too Slow To Disco comp), Frankie or Mbilia Bel in this group.

Did a double take when I saw “Misled” was by KATG; full marks to them for a different sound. That might be enough to get my vote. (Not a Billy O fan. Patti’s song is pure jelcore; don’t hate it. Dennis & Seidah are best here but Gorman’d sadly)

First time I’ve heard any General Public, I think. In hindsight, kinda makes sense they went in this direction but I wish they sound more like their futuristic haircuts on the cover. Not a patch in the excellent Cherrelle song in any event.

Three excellent songs (and another bit of Prince-associated detritus). Might have to assume Sade will be OK here.

So much happening in the Newcleus 12” mix. Is the Jam On Revenge LP worth a listen? The titles are great, so I’m hopeful.

Terrible news. I really admired his stoicism and determination in the face of the diagnosis to live life to the full. My condolences to his family and friends.

“Brit” dominance here *ducks*

Going with J Blackfoot here. This type of man-ballad isn’t normally my thing. But this one’s really well done.

Reminded me of “Sandwiches” by Detroit Grand Pubahs, which is from that era too

I enjoyed Blyk Tchutchi a lot too

That endlessly cycling BSky prompt, but substitute 80s for ‘90s’ and Planet Patrol for ‘Nirvana’, ‘Soundgarden’ and ‘Alice In Chains’

Before the YT playlist went up, I found a couple of joyous live-in-the-studio performances.
Here’s one:

FB3 should have used this lot as their backing band.
