My daughter bought a house three years ago. Her first mortgage agent suggested she should marry her boyfriend and have him as the primary borrower even though she made quite a bit more money. She laughed and hung up on him.

Invariably there's a historical marker talking about coal mining or labor strife, but they'll also mention things like "in a town of 2,000 there were two Slavic language newspapers". What was supposed to be a point of contention turns into a point of pride.

The murder of Hatfield was probably as much personal as business since two of Felts' brothers were killed at Matewan. They were in town to evict families from company housing in response to unionizing that was going on. What's trippy and back to Derek's point, when you visit these little towns

Right on the courthouse steps. Lively was an employee of Baldwin Felts, lesser known, but probably more infamous than the Pinkertons or Dodge. Baldwin Felts was responsible for the Ludlow massacre in Colorado where they machine gunned a tent camp of women and children.

Just for a little more context. They were gunned down at the courthouse in Welch, WV (there's actually a decent Mexican place in town if you want to go). Both men were with their wives and unarmed. Sid was on trial for the events at the Battle of Matewan. Charles Lively delivered a coup de grace

I remember when there was so much consternation about the patriot act and invasion of privacy and now it's like "Fuck it". This all needs to be dismantled. I'm willing to be a little less safe (and I'm not convinced by TSA performance art) than have this level of intrusion.
