Ironically a good way to “teach” this is to have kids tinker with, explore, and even build filters. But we banned cell phones in schools so…

I'm pretty opposed to so-called "parent's rights" nonsense, but a "children's rights" agenda would also include some pressure on tech companies to give a shit about young people's safety in the design of their products. Frivolous lawsuits may not be it, but "teach better" isn't either.

Not having read the 327-pages, but having read your article... On the one hand, this is absolutely an education problem. On the other, our lawmakers have been so enamored by big tech money that they've neglected their role in oversight and lawmaking. And so we live in Spider-Man pointing.gif land.

A handful of judges get to sit around in robes and pretend words on a page confirm we live in a utopia, while here in reality everyone recognizes the blunt truth that overturning the voting rights act is explicitly about the GOP "eliminating" the power of the vote for people of color.
Nate Cohn in the NYT writing: It's hard to say exactly how many districts Republicans would eliminate if the Supreme Court bars the electoral maps created by using race as a factor. But even on the lower end of the estimate, Republicans will probably eliminate around a half-dozen.

Next week will see a first in computer science, with the launch of a scientific conference in which all of the papers — and all of the reviews — have been produced by machines

AI bots wrote and reviewed all papers at this conference
Event will assess how reviews by models compare with those written by humans.

They are very scared of the No Kings rally which should be a strong motivator to show up on Saturday. Hell bring an American flag if you have one. It goes great next to any sign telling would-be kings to fuck off.

Johnson: "We call it the Hate America Rally that will happen Saturday. Let's see who shows up for that. I bet you you'll see Hamas supporters, I bet you'll see antifa types, I bet you'll see Marxists on full display, people who don't want to stand and defend the foundational truths of this republic"

He's said this a few times now. Wild that he thinks it's a killer line that everyday Americans will get excited about.
(Also wild that we lost to these absolute losers)

I find the "this is not who we are" vs "this is always been who we are" argument tedious. The point shouldn't be to whitewash American history, nor to always list all of our sins, but to collectively articulate a vision of who we want to be as a country and use this vision to mobilize action.

i would like to theorize a concept like "concept permanence" similar to object permanence (you know, the thing we learn as toddlers). i read all these AI blog posts excitedly talking about the BRAND NEW CHALLENGES of AI systems and

it's the same brand new challenges every new technology faces
