A Snake River Fall-run Brown #Trout. Great run this Fall! Just my way of fly-fishing, I use barbless hooks & don't remove the fish from water. Quick photo, flick of the wrist & off the trout goes. I don't pass judgement on others, simply my way of fishing.
My wife wanted a diff't vantage of the beaver log photo from yesterday. So, we went back down to the Snake for a photo with more view of opposite river bank. Have to admit, I like this one better. Skies will clear today with lows to 21° & highs to mid-40s, rest of this week.

From a crewmember on yesterday's Teal 74 mission into now-Category 5 Hurricane #Melissa. As clear of an eye as you will see in the Atlantic basin.
No, all the ones I've seen lately are past prime. Has been freezing at night for a week. Plus, this one had some gnaw marks on one side...like mouse or chipmunk.
Small oyster mushroom on a last-year, beaver downed cottonwood, along the Snake, this AM.

The side of Earth you never see. It has Point Nemo in the middle, which recently a father and son swam through for the first time ever👇

Morning fire's made, water is boiled & coffee pressed. Upper 20s wind-chill outside, rain along Snake River with snow in mountains from Sun Valley, Yellowstone & to the Tetons. So, just relaxing with biscotti this AM.
Sunrise along the Snake. Snow forecast by tomorrow evening. Read that Yellowstone is closing some roadways today due to winter weather advisory.
Stoking the woodstove fire. 32° outside, rain forecast by afternoon with snow tomorrow. We slept in this AM. Usually up at 5 AM, today 6:30! Will put coffee on soon. Morning cabin chill already gone.
28° outside with clear skies. My gold: quaking aspen...just catching the morning light of sunrise. Also, spruce trees are loaded with cones this year. Maybe get some red and white-winged crossbills show up this winter for cone seeds.
Woodlot well-stocked & wood is split. Brought up sev loads into garage. Tonight, clear & cold. Front arrives Sat afternoon: cold, wet, then snow. Decided to fire up the stove this evening &, indeed, warm & cozy!
First fire in the woodstove of the season. Dropping to upper 20s tonight. Snow forecast by Sat evening. There was a bit of a chill in the place, now toasty warm.
Quaking aspen trees in front turned gold quickly this year! A windstorm blew a lot of the leaves away before I could get a photo of their color. The narrow leaf cottonwoods are done for the season. If forecasts are correct, looks like a winter storm this wkend.
After 8 hr of 40+ mph winds yest, alot of trees are now bare & remaining color is muted compared to past 10 days. Tonight, temp is dropping into mid 2Os, hi today was 46°. Spectacular fall color along the Snake this yr, while it lasted!
So, not only US soybean farmers. Next, it will be the cattle ranchers. Got it. So much winning...???
Sunrise photo 32° F this AM. Phone photo blurs the colors together, but actually, past peak. Cottonwoods have lost 30% leaves & colors muted now. Quakies in middle are now turning gold & look great at our elevation. In another WK, most cottonwoods will have dropped leaves. A beautiful Fall, tho!
Showed this trump AI video to the neighborhood Bald Eagle. He's like...What the 💩💩💩?!!!
Past 3 days have gone from "peak" to "past peak" Fall color, along my stretch of the Snake. Colors are fading, more muted & leaves are falling. Glad my sister visited at just the right time! Have visited NE Canada & US for Fall color &, indeed, beautiful. But, still something about Rocky Mtn Fall...
32° & frost this AM. Sun's coming up & cottonwoods, willows & quakies are ablaze. Blew out sprinkler system yest, winterized & turned off irrigation pump. Older sister just finished visiting us for a WK & had never seen such fall color, she was amazed! Woodlot in good supply, readying for winter.
Walked out to the barn & accidentally scared up muledeer doe & fawn bedded under front quakies. Quickly snapped blurry phone photo as they leaped fence into pasture. Extended forecast: lows to freezing mark & below, highs into low 50s, some moisture, next 5 days.
Please feel free to correct me, if I'm wrong on my identification of fossil from Piazzo San Marco. I'm very amateur re; fossils. Would be interested if you might know age of the stones used in that square, as well.
Very cool! Thanks for sharing! I missed seeing the gastropod sev yrs ago at Newton's gravesite in Westminster Abbey. A reason to return. But, last month, saw a large nautiloid fossil on a step at Piazzo San Marco in Venice.
Amazing! Interesting how diff't eras, have their own style of photography.
Sister is visiting us & shared some fam photos I didn't have. Photo: Grandpa holding my Dad, 1927, at W TX ranch. Sis told me GF & GM grew sev acre garden & Great GM, nearby, kept large kettle soup heated (like an Irish famine pot), all to help feed folks traveling thru during Depression.
43° & rain, dropping to freezing mark tonight, along the Snake this AM. More of a Pacific NW weather pattern last few days, than a Rocky Mtn one. The moisture is definitely needed, tho. And Fall continues its march towards Winter.
