Like the 821 class no official class name was given to the 901s. They were just called 'Japanese Mikado'. Tho they were referred to as 'DX50' by Mitsubishi unofficially. The misconception persists and soon the 821s are referred to as 'CX50' even tho no builders had ever called them by that name

This is 953. A 901 class post war Mikado built for the SRT. Appearance wise there's almost no difference between the 821 Pacifics apart from the wheelbase. They were the main powerhouse on freight duties along with the S118s with 70 engines built. 953 is the only 901 class that hasn't been retired

There's a ghost here in this shop. A pretty big one. Been here for almost 2 decades. They've been calling in contractors to look the engine over but they just kept finding more problems and they kept finding more problems. This might just be where it stays now waiting to be cannibalized bit by bit
