Point taken, but Gtmo was deliberately selected as a legally ambiguous location that was only as visible as the regime wanted it to be (have to say I was impressed by the evil & deviousness, and not in a good way). Ice, the Alcatraz's etc. lack those qualities, so aren't abstractions. We shall see.

My guess is that those positions (which are certainly popular among Democrats) will be brought up as the primaries approach. Too early a reveal would give Rs more time to find and embed the next Laken Riley into the narrative.

Can't argue with that but I think what might be different this time is the palpable sense that this time it's not symbolic. Proof will be when they actually execute.

I'm 75, living on SS and what remains of a verizon tech pension and am hunkered down with pretty much 0 debt even though inflation will probably keep interest rates low. The inevitable succession struggle will decide the issue. Does tRump engender such admiration because he somehow validates his adherents being their worst selves or is he just the biggest and most visible asshole? If it's just the latter, the power struggle will be epic as they have a deep bench.
