While VGBC anticipated a closure at some point in 2025, it expected more lead time. The tweet contains a lot of detailed information including the final monthly events at the venue.
The closure of this facility is linked to the multi-year redevelopment of horse racing in Maryland. The state is taking ownership of Laurel Park on January 1. It's also taking over Pimlico: the long-term plan will leave Pimlico the only operating of the two tracks beginning in 2027.
Down the stretch they come: Xanadu Games at Laurel Park will shut its doors December 28. The facility was the home of VGBootCamp as well as multiple VGBC events over the years and locals in the DC/Baltimore area.

This decision by Blink Esports harms the entire Dominican Smash community by stripping the other 176 attendees of the chance to be recognized at their largest national by the rankings service because they let one banned player participate.
It is concerning that we have had an organizer worthy of delisting on other grounds, an organizer incurring delisting for banned player attendance, and an organizer constantly flirting with delisting run events this year.
Delisting should be a rare event because people in our community should not choose to support organizers that are not worth our trust. Yet Blink Respawn is the second event this year that we have delisted.
We have for some time maintained a policy that, in rare circumstances, we will delist events whose promoters cannot be trusted to guarantee the health and safety of attendees. This includes any event that knowingly and willingly admits banned players.
An event in the Dominican Republic that otherwise would have qualified for the Smash Calendar on entrant count, Blink Respawn, has been delisted because of the knowing attendance of a banned player.
Attendees of this Ultimate event have the option to request a refund or keep their reservation for the new dates and receive an event T-shirt and tumbler, per this afternoon's release.
Delfino Maza (Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico) has postponed to 2025 (exact dates unannounced) citing "reasons outside our organization".

Margot has it basically as a liaison to the FGC.

But direct view does not give you the ability to edit the calendar. You have to come back through us (we have an internal Discord that contains all Calendar viewers plus the TOs of dozens of calendared tournaments in recent years).
~15 people have what we call direct view. They are

* Reps of large organizations (VGBC, BTS, Galint, Collision)
* Organizers of the biggest events (Genesis, TBH, SSC, Nouns)
* Reps of the ranking/rating services in Melee and Ult
* Former Cal. Keepers Aiden, Blur, BAM

Five people (names in bio) maintain the Calendar system and connect it to organizers the world over. The result? A publicly viewable spreadsheet of all notable Smash events by year — and a private Calendar, containing information on unannounced events and used by us to reduce and avert conflicts.
