It’s #NationalRedheadDay, and did you know?

Research suggests redheads are more sensitive to temperature 🥶🥵

Our bodies expect to be warm during the day and cooler at night (key for good sleep!). Redheads might feel this shift more intensely. Does this mean redheads sleep better or worse? 🤔
Rooted in evidence and clinical experience, Sleep Counsellors support children and young people with additional support needs or adults with complex needs, including those with learning disabilities, autism, or mental health challenges.

What is Sleep Counselling? 🥱

Sleep Counselling is a structured, evidence-based approach to improving sleep through behavioural strategies, education, and tailored support.

➡️ It’s an approach that combines the latest research with 27+ years’ applied experience.
😴 Poor sleep can impact mental and physical health, and is thought to be linked to a higher risk of developing some cancers. This Movember, protect your health and supercharge your moustache by prioritising sleep.
🥸 Movember cheat code: Better sleep = better moustache growth.

Sleep is vital for hair growth, so it could help with growing a luscious moustache.

#Movember raises awareness of mental health issues, as well as suicide, prostate, and testicular cancer.

This is a step towards a Scotland where every child and young person has the knowledge, tools, and support to establish healthy sleep routines, empowering them to thrive.

With cross-party support, sleep education is on its way to becoming a meaningful part of the curriculum.
🚀 MANIFESTO MILESTONE 😴

Thank you to MSP @monicalennon.bsky.social for her motion to Parliament that positions healthy sleep as a fundamental pillar of public health, encouraging the Scottish Government to ensure sleep health is given core status within future public health & educational strategies
Dreading Halloween sleep disruption? 🎃

Costumes & sweets can spike cortisol levels, making it harder for little ones to wind down.

After trick-or-treating, start a calming wind-down hour, even if it's later than usual, to help trigger melatonin, so your child can drift off more easily.
By embedding sleep education in the #CurriculumForExcellence, we can help reduce health inequalities and support the Scottish Government’s vision for a fairer, healthier nation under the Public Health Scotland Strategic Plan and The Promise.

REASON #3 Why sleep must be part of the curriculum 🛌

🤝 Teaching Sleep to Reduce Health Inequalities

Sleep deprivation disproportionately affects children living in poverty or experiencing adversity.
Stress promotes cortisol production, which inhibits sleep, while depression can lead to decreased daytime activity and disrupt circadian rhythms.

When we prioritise sleeping well, we support emotional resilience, improve cognitive function, and give our bodies the chance to recover and thrive.
This #WorldMentalHealthDay, we are reflecting on the impact of sleep 😴

Discussions on mental health often highlight the importance of diet and exercise, but there is no health and wellbeing without sleep.

Stress and mental health have a major impact on sleep...

We know there are higher rates of behavioural challenges & greater socio-emotional difficulties for young people with poor sleep. This impacts the whole family. Despite this evidence, sleep remains absent from the national curriculum. This is a missed opportunity for prevention & early intervention.
