My husband has a very very serious congenital heart defect and has had multiple open heart surgeries, now has a pacemaker, and is technically in heart failure. His insurance decided the only doc in the valley who treats adult congential patients isn't in network. And they didn't tell us.

2/2 and it's always a struggle to write him because he struggles. So I struggle on his behalf. I think it means you're doing it right! And this is exciting. Arrows, charging steeds, and I don't know why, but kick somebody with a horse and I'm all ooooooooh yeahhhh

I don't know the characters per se, but I like the internal struggle followed by external action beat. I have a character sort of like that--my Nuniver--who is quite capable of doing but simply cannot stop himself from thinking and thinking and thinking BEFORE any doing commences (1/2)

Deeply felt. I always feel like apologizing after I mention it irl. I don't, but I feel that way. It is, in fact, draining. Online? There's so much to choose from and I'm not super nichey (not romantasy) so, though I'm appealing to someone, I have no idea how to find them

oh look at that, I see some pronoun irregularity there--antecedent swaperoo shit--that I can edit. Sometimes posting these tricky bits acts as a kind of sieve, where clunkers get stuck and become easier to spot. That just me?

You were playing a game, but that was the ruse, wasn’t it? A lie to hide carefully planned crimes. We knew Nebbyd was disloyal. We knew he consorted with the Kellman. We underestimated how far and how quickly he would move, but you can’t be serious when you say you failed. How can you fail at a trap dug in your path?” She reached for his hands again, but he tucked balled fists under his arms. “A wise man can see the trap and step over it.” Could they have seen it? Could they have guessed when they planned for Muster? He needed to believe he could not have. Guilt would tie his sword to his side. In evidence, he sat steeping in his shame, knees slacked open, his arms binding his own chest so he could barely breathe.

Yay! It's a series long mission to lay down heroic fantasy foundational characters & then step on a slat to send them flying. Old ladies swallow up flies but they don't die from it. That's the lie (& TY for giving me air to talk about it bc with Bk 2 delayed for funding I'm so incredibly impatient)

That's SO TRUE! I was raised in a church that sang "Just As I Am" weekly & one of the lyrics was "just as I am and waiting not/to rid my soul of one dark blot"--ahh, self loathing, the hole that lasts a lifetime!

10/7-since Bk 2 is delayed due to a total lack of funds I'm working on a novella covering "off camera" events in Bk 1. Haven't settled on a title nor roughed enough to do this often but here's a 1st clunky vibe at it. Work is therapy

“Midgyr. Send word to Midgyr. With that change, write your bond. I will sign it and seal it.” His pain radiated like cold rising from a frozen lake. She almost wished he would run hot again, but the fire was out. She had taken him down to bedrock. Was that necessary? Seizing her tighter, he kissed her but drew away as suddenly to plead, “Must I go? How can I ride away from you again?”

She bore him down, deeper. “You have no home now that does not make room for the safety of your people. I will share this burden, but there is no putting down.”

He was beyond either weeping or raging, and for that she was at least a little thankful. There was so much work to be done.
