Met downtown residents John Burley & Rachel Simpson, who’ve lived on E 4th for 3.5 years. Rachel works at Cuyahoga DD, John in accounting at a marketing firm. Loved meeting them & their 3.5-year-old basset, June, who is not big on pics but a downtown dog full of charm.

Loved visiting Sweet Lorain with Linda Flannery and Redwin Lewis. Open since 1991 in a former bowling alley, Redwin has run it for over 15 years. Incredible vintage finds & a true Cleveland treasure. Thanks to Linda for the photo. A must Cleveland visit to see this amazing spot.

Stopped by Forest City Shuffleboard (4506 Lorain Ave), a neighborhood hangout since 2017 with courts, bar & rotating kitchen. Met Parma-born Tessa Gross, a new staffer & talented creative who designs her own clothes. Great to see her energy in Cleveland.

Stopped into Gallucci’s at 6610 Euclid Ave, a Cleveland classic that never disappoints. Chatted with Marc R. Kotora, fourth generation of the family, who started working here at 12 back in 1986. You can tell this place still means something to the city and everyone who walks through the door.

Heard the Cleveland Singing Angels practicing at their office on Lorain Ave. Met Jim Koenig, a volunteer and former student, and Lisa Wright, exec director. They've performed for 3 popes & 5 presidents in 38+ countries. Rare moment, lucky to hear them. singingangels.org

Visited the relatively new spot Steak Cleveland at 2179 W. 11th St. in Tremont and met staff Briana Fogle and assistant manager Benita Alveranga. Opened Aug 2024 by Hangry Brands, the spot serves quality steaks with a simple all-in-one menu. More info: steakcle.com

So great to have Kathryn Clusman and Dr. Jason Hanley from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame at the MLK Jr. Branch. They helped bring Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo to speak in the area. Jason’s music knowledge and his book We Rock! make him a go-to for music programs across the city.
