4.) The best thing to do when looking for a small mammal is to search local shelters first. There are so many animals that need homes, as often small mammals are abandoned when people realize it's harder to take care of them than they think.

3.) My first two hamsters were both from PetSmart, and I was incredibly misinformed about how to take care of them. After six years of taking care of hamsters, I've done so much more research and strived to improve the living conditions of every animal in my care.

2.) I'm very much against buying animals from large chain pet stores. My baby boy Gilbert was a rescue from a local humane society, and providing him a loving home was very important to me. Small mammals and rodents often have their needs overlooked or minimalized by pet stores.
