He wasn't. Which makes this harder. I am still emotional and distaught because death is heavy, and the reactions of my mum and her diagnosis are more what has torn me apart. As well as having to provide medical care I wasn't prepared for. But it's complicated because he wasn't a good guy.

I'm hoping the long drive gives me some time and space to process things. But I'm desperate also not to be alone with my thoughts.

But thank you to everyone who checked in on me. It meant a lot and I know I am loved and cared for even by strangers.

And I was only there for the last stretch of it. My mother has been doing this since the end of August. It is a harrowing experience and it changes you. It's started to hit me now that I'm not preoccupied with helping him and my mum. And I'm not sure when I'll be back to "normal"

After 12 days of being in Ottawa I'm finally headed the 500km back home.
Caring for my stepfather right up until his death was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. Home palliative care is not talked about enough and just what goes into it and the lasting impact it has.

Also I kind of just want to put this out there, but the way you talked about homeless people 100% informs me on your character and whether or not I want to associate with you in any way. There is such a lack of compassion towards other humans in this world.

I understand people wanting to talk about other things rather than death but this and the general awkwardness of being the queer in the family somehow always comes up even when it's an inappropriate time. At least in my experience.

Just needed to vent that a bit. Processing everything right now...

One thing I did not expect to have to deal with while watching my stepfather die in hospice was the idle chitchat people coming in make & having to explain multiple times to different people that digital art is not "the computer drawing it for me" while being constantly asked what I do for a living

We finally got a bed at hospice for my step father. He is at the point he will likely go quickly. But its been extremely busy and stressful getting things sorted out. I was on two phones at the same time this morning and just rearranged the house so patient transport can get in easier.

I've had a hard time putting into words what's happened since I've been in Ottawa.
We don't know my mother's stage yet. This type of cancer often isn't diagnosed until stage 3 or 4 due to how it presents. So that's a stressful unknown.
My step father is declining rapidly.

I'm using this opportunity to shed some light on death
My stepfather is completely out of it. If he's not asleep/dazed he's delirious and agitated. Yelling, pushing, struggling. He doesn't have dementia or Alzheimer's. This is just the reality of death in many cases. In some ways he's already gone.

I'm going to be going to Ottawa I have no idea for how long.
I'll take my work but at this point I have no idea what's going to get done at this point.
