What’s a more structurally significant difference? I haven’t played around with any rings except the ring of functions on a space

But hey a lot of programming languages use a generic ‘end’ keyword so 🤷‍♂️

You may be right. I still feel that having to keep track of which environment you’re ending may be a ‘feature not a bug’. I’m thinking of the times when programming in Python I have something like a((. , (b(. , .), .)) and a misplaced ) isn’t immediately reflected in the error message

This would be harder to read unless you indent your latex code properly (which we obviously do not do). I imagine it would also be harder to debug? If you end the wrong environment IIRC latex says something like “\begin{foo} ended with \end{bar}”

That sounds awesome! My own research led me to diffusion MRI one afternoon some months ago. In it they model the diffusivity of water(?) in brain tissue as a tensor field, and then try to learn that tensor field using MRI, which then tells them something about the tissue structure idk

Idk what either of those areas of math are tbh, but blow-ups kind of sounds like how in classical mechanics you solve problems involving smooth submanifolds on the tangent/cotangent bundle of a manifold, rather than on the manifold itself. Like finding geodesics or minimal surfaces

It is unqeuivocally shameful to be using an LLM for something search engines have been good at for what, 20 years now? Even the few use-cases of LLMs that I am empathetic towards (like code-completion, literature review) seem to degrade one's ability to think independently and systematically

What do engineers do with *checks notes* toric varieties? Wait I guess you never found out

‘96% of healthcare professionals said the model helps to reduce children’s anxiety, and 46% reported a lesser need to use sedation after the children played with the set.‘

‘Lego doesn’t sell the sets and instead has donated more than 10,000 of the kits to hospitals around the world.’

Spent a lot of time today playing around with @diffgeom.com's incredible math visualizations www.diffgeom.org/software/ind...

My favorite was the Torus Sketch! Makes me wanna learn Javascript

I was wondering that too. What makes me think its still AI is that at the end the chair moves with her, as if she's pulling the table to position herself. Her new half-sitting/half-leaning posture could be an AI trying to reconcile this new "chair shape" with what it knows about chairs

It seems fine to me until she attempts to sit on the back side of her two-sided swivel chair

New blog post! Through a sequence of images, I verify that the unknotting number of the connected sum of a (2,7) torus knot and its mirror is less than 6: I show that this first image is the connected sum, and after changing those crossings, it produces the unknot! divisbyzero.com/2025/10/08/t...
A drawing of the connected sum of a (2,7) torus knot and its mirror image (much modified). An image of a crazy knot I claim is the unknot.
