Despite my extreme disdain for gulf-state authoritarianism, I've tried to be supportive of friends and colleagues who took university teaching jobs. The marketplace is awful, the jobs were real, and (ostensibly) their academic freedom was to be upheld. This? Was the 450K+CAD/yr just not enough?

I don't know anything about the organization of the protests, but I suspect it took many months of planning to execute. As such, I am very much willing to believe the intersection of the 'One Good Thing™' and the protests is entirely coincidental.

But invariably someone will clap back 'who cares why we're mad, the point is that they are the worst and everyone needs to know about it' coupled with 'you're awfully invested in carrying water for [X]' and, since I'm a guy, 'You know she won't fuck you right?'. God... why am I even on this site...
