Rather a striking flower form on this rose, seen today in Perigueux beside the steps leading from the car park to my ophthalmologist. Vigorous and healthy.

Mine was a critical thing related to the complications. Wasn’t a great time! Just hope for no complications this time (not that the cataract was a cause of complications, rather an outcome). I now have a date in the new year.

I’ve been puzzling over your “seeing at a distance” … realise that when you have both dove around the same time they “reset” to zero. Because I only had one in 2012 they had to match the other (v long sighted) one. Now they’ll have to match again so always destined for specs!

I had one done already, in Nov 2012, in the eye that has little sight after optic nerve damage post retinal detachment. This is my “good” eye that’s deteriorating. Obvs with our circumstances it’s so important for me to have best sight possible. Will report back!

Good morning
An early start for me as off to see the ophthalmologist in Perigueux. Will be discussing dealing with a cataract which is beginning to impede my sight.
See you later.

We ate our final home grown beetroots yesterday. Had months of yum from them!

I have just seen my first skein of grue (cranes) flying south directly overhead
We are on the route of their migration
Actually you don’t see them first, you hear them
It’s a wondrous sight at which we always marvel
Virtually impossible to photograph unless they are flying low which these weren’t

The Guardian and The Times don’t seem to agree on the facts in this story!

I was even watering some dahlias earlier with a hosepipe

Another wall to wall sunshine day today. Enjoying the weather … except that everywhere is so dry. Worryingly dry.

Good morning from sunny warm SWFrance
Well, to be fair, the sun’s not up yet, but a fine day is promised to add to the string of beautiful days we’ve been enjoying
Autumn colour seems particularly good round these parts this year
Here’s a leaf from our liriodendron tree

We made the decision to go for a heated pool when we put it in. Makes the season lovely and long.

Autumn colours are all around us and beautiful
More pool action this afternoon; making the most of this mid-October Indian summer
Water temperature will plummet (because of the colder nights) as soon as we switch off the heat pump
In the meantime it remains at 29. Very nice too

Oh Liz that’s ridiculous. Can he get the Covid jab privately? I used to go to a travel clinic and pay to get my flu jabs before I hit the magic age.

Good morning BlueSky
Off to our local pharmacie to book our flu & Covid jabs. It’s all so easy here in France. Another warm and sunny day in prospect. There will be gardening and there will be pool time later.
What does your Tuesday hold in store for you?
Some great autumn colours in the garden

I made some a couple of years ago and we called it green tomato marmalade

Good morning everyone
Posting a little later than usual despite being up since 6 as always
Hoping a few more uk and European friends are around!
Lots of autumnal photos taken in the garden yesterday. Here’s one, looking up the bank at the side of our septic tank (fosse septique)! Nice layering!

Brilliant. We are going to Sicily in May and then the Alps in early August. Wonderful to look forward to!

Are you booked on any 2026 trips, Andy?

My advice? Book quickly!

Our Orchids of Rhodes tour is the ultimate exploration of the orchid flora of that wonderful Greek island. The 2026 tour has been fully booked since April 2025, and now the first bookings are coming in for the 2027 tour... this one always fills fast! (And donates to support @bsbibotany.bsky.social)
