A certain school of leftist thought would have you believe your country is permanently hostile toward your interests and will only do anything good if you threaten to set it on fire. Then if they do the good thing, the only proper response is to set it on fire anyway. This demonstrates principles.

Basically they believe that any form of taking pride in your country, even when it does something good, is for suckers. Your country can successfully beat back fascism, fix the economy, expand health care, their reply will always nevertheless be "fuck you, what have you done for me LATELY?"

Full disclosure: I work for a government contract, but not one of the big guys (we have less than 100 employees). If we ever have a real congress and a real president again, that's where they want to look for WFA--the defense giants.
