Clearly, AI is at best a mixed blessing for education. Many people have strong negative feelings about AI, and in part I agree. But let's not overgeneralize! Whenever AI can be used to improve education, we should take that opportunity! 🧵4/4

The second is grading of highly constrained open-ended exams. This is more high-stakes, because it means using AI (though monitored by humans) to give grades. This requires a careful and well-considered approach, and I'm happy that the article does a pretty good job at explaining it. 🧵3/4

The first are formative quizzes in which students answer, through dialogue, questions that Heymans asks based on a section from (typically) a textbook. This gets students engaged earlier (not two days before an exam) and more deeply with the material than they typically do. 🧵2/4
