I've no time for a bigot who specifically covets stately homes encrusted with lavish internal plasterwork funded by the Atlantic Slave Trade.
After years of Tory abuses, this new Gov "tool" coupled with major ethical betrayals by senior Labour Party politicians, has left me feeling that I am far less politically empowered than my grandmother b 1900, whose first vote was allowed in 1928.
Ellison says it's about one AI system "understanding our country".

Post-Humanist Neoliberalism?

Worse than that. They are not talking about FTSE 100 corps, or even a panel of AIs, in cohorts with our "democracy", but ONE AMERICAN TECH BILLIONAIRE's coding decisions rationalising our lives.
Is this just about Criminal Justice and Prison Reform?

The infection of US Tech Billionaire ideology is rampant.

See Tony Blair (Institute) financed by Larry Ellison (Oracle) and their overt "AI" plans for our personal NHS data.

I'm not sure any of us asked for American tech giant billionaires to advise, voluntarily...?
Just over 100 years later, A PANEL OF BILLIONAIRE AMERICAN TECH AND AI GIANTS is today's idea of "structural reform"; Neoliberal transfer of public funds towards private capital for the sake of expediency and GDP Growth.

Progress?

Emerging from the Victorian rise of the so-called "self-made" individual from existing positions of privilege (Salt was himself an Etonian), the HL sought to shift culture towards equitable "sympathy" for ALL (today, call it compassion), reflected in structural reforms.
The Humanitarian League called for deep and searching questions to be asked of society as to the causes of crime, rather than inflicting savage cruelty and repeated traumas to those already disadvantaged.
Salt and friends such as legislators and judges assembled to his "Humanitarian League" campaigned for urgent prison reform, a change in criminal law and penal codes, leading to the establishment of the Court of Appeal and an end to "flogging."
Caring about the planet and all species means the inclusion of the care for people.

Early 20thC humanists like the prolific writer and campaigner Henry S Salt recognised the importance of this connection.

He was an ethicist, vegetarian, and pacifist. Today, he would also be an "ecosocialist".

Despite almost zero visibility on Bluesky, why am I re-posting?

Because no matter how unpopular, boring, or "academic" it sounds, the value of co-operation, (particularly in American culture, which is where the British are increasingly pointed), is falsely "trumped" by competition.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch... #BeingHuman

This week, white, chemically floral-smelling foam has been gushing from the Severn Trent treatment works outflow into the River Teme, south of Ludlow.

Although the EU helped to reduce phosphates in detergents, increased sales and increased "concentration" of product have increased.

Bacterial removal of phosphates in sewage is only around 20% successful in older treatment works, whilst newer technologies cannot remove beyond 80-90%.

A complete ban on phosphates in detergents and surfactants is necessary.
If a Hesgeth military does not adhere to the Geneva Convention & many other progressive UN Treaties, then it should expect no decency in return. Those conventions are written in blood to protect life, including civilians.

I worry for all our children, including American children.
Hegseth: "We unleash overwhelming and punishing violence on the enemy. We also don't fight with stupid rules of engagement. We untie the hands of our warfighters to intimidate, demoralize, hunt, and kill the enemies of our country. No more politically correct and overbearing rules of engagement."
I'm, honestly, speechless at any role Tony Blair is expecting to play.
For European leadership/UK Labour Gov to back Trump's attempt at a fait accompli against traumatised, grieving Palestinian people would be the third abject moral failure in as many years (after complicit inaction to stop Netanyahu's genocide and ecocide).
"Israel does not recognize the PA’s signed trade agreements with the European Union, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), Canada, and Türkiye, which therefore cannot be implemented; however, the West Bank and Gaza remain eligible for the benefits of the U.S.-Israel Free Trade Agreement."
Furthermore President von der Leyen, the US Government's latest "investment" update on their website states that Europe's free trade deal with the PA is now dead in the water...
Is Europe supportive? This is an utterly contemptible move by Trump to get "private" investors to undemocratically move in on Gaza "Riviera" before the bodies of all the dead children are cold and the forensic teams are done with one of the largest crime scenes in living memory (bombs per capita).
The BBC are clearly not in the business of airing any valid post-colonial commentary or criticisms of the extreme capitalist charge on vulnerable Palestinians being made under the guise of "peace".
BBC's Tom Bateman says Trump's plan is a "significant step" in diplomacy, but in diplomatic style, Bateman doesn't articulate the ethical direction of that step.
Would creative ecolinguistics (neologisms) be of interest?
...God forbid in case they have ANY influence on mainstream culture and the meaning of "progress".
