We gave testimony to show our support for the county drafting an ordinance, known as the Civil Liberties Enforcement and Accountability Rules (CLEAR) Ordinance, which aims to increase local protections for community members in San Diego County.
On Monday, the city of San Diego passed the Due Process and Safety Ordinance to increase local protections for San Diego families.

Yesterday, the county of San Diego had an opportunity to take similar steps.

More people have died this year in immigration detention than any other year in decades.

The best way to prevent abuse and deaths in ICE custody is for Congress to stop funding the ICE detention machine.
ICE is hiring dozens of health workers as lawsuits, deaths in custody mount
Nearly as many migrants have died in detention so far this year than over the four years of the Biden administration.

The trip introduced our supporters to both Imperial Valley and our vital community partners, without whom our communities would continue to be left behind. Thank you to everyone who joined us on this important trip! Stay tuned for more updates from our team and partners in Imperial Valley.
Following the tour, Valle Unido coalition members from ACLU-SDIC, Jobs to Move America (JMA), United Auto Workers (UAW) Region 6 and IVEJ shared about the efforts in Imperial Valley to ensure that economic and environmental justice are at the forefront of lithium extraction conversations.
Earlier this month, ACLU-SDIC organizers led a tour of the north end of Imperial Valley, with special guests from Imperial Valley Equity & Justice (IVEJ), to educate our supporters about lithium extraction in this historically underserved region.
Thank you to Councilmember Sean Elo-Rivera for his leadership on this ordinance, and to everyone who showed up, called in or left e-comment for yesterday’s San Diego City Council meeting. Together, we made our voices heard.
This is a crucial first step for San Diego to fight back against the Trump administration’s campaign of overreach and intimidation.

This helps protect our families, our neighbors and our broader community, and sets a powerful example for other local governments across the region and state.

This administration wants to divide us, to spread fear, to erase dissent.

That’s not leadership. That’s abuse of power. And we’re here to call it out.

Tomorrow, we march. ✊🏽

For 105 years, the ACLU has fought to protect and expand the promise of the First Amendment. Tomorrow, we join together once again to say: we will not let the Trump administration undo a century of hard-fought progress.

Freedom doesn’t defend itself.
Repost from NILC : Planning to attend an upcoming protest? Here are things to keep in mind, especially if you are an immigrant or going with someone who is.

Your voice matters —and so does your safety. Let’s look out for one another. #KnowYourRights #NoKingsDay
