#academicsky Please check in on your PhD student friends…we are not doing well.

I’ve had so many conversations about how we can possibly go on when the world is crumbling and our livelihoods are under attack. I’ve had multiple friends leave their programs. I’m sad but I’m gonna fight. I have to.

Every day I am thankful that there's an #academicsky filled with people doing fascinating work, changing how we think, challenging uninformed ideas. And just generally making the world more curious, more knowledgeable, and more interesting. We need you more than ever.
Is there a better place to be an academic than in a Cambridge college garden? Gratitude to @newnhamcollege.bsky.social for a perfect open day experience. And 🥂 to all the academic mothers working hard to help the next generation of women find the right place to pursue their big ideas. #academicsky

Happy sunny #bankholiday to the UK branch of #academicsky. May you achieve absolutely nothing -- and without guilt. ❤️🇬🇧
Recognition 👀 to everyone putting in all that back-to-school love and time for your own kids as you also prepare to receive all the students that other parents and supporters are getting ready to send your way. #academicsky

We always love a good piece about thinking about thinking. Especially when it helps academics turn toward writing what they really want to write. #academicsky
I suddenly realise that perhaps even British academics don't know Ice Gems unless they regularly travel the children's party circuit.
Good luck to all the UK folks working Clearing. May there be good snacks and may you find the season's diamonds perfect for your uni. IYKYK #academicsky
If you're reading this I hope it's because you've taken the weekend off so that tomorrow your wonderfully rested mind will actually look forward to writing again. Time away is an important part of thinking process. #academicsky
Mine too. Thanks to years of complete and total neglect. Now I search for interesting ways to eat them all. They might all go into a fig syrup. How about you?
I rely of #academicsky humour like this to keep from weeping
Developing some course materials, I thought I'd actually take the incessant advice from our school exec's and use AI. The image on the left is what I fed into the machine, the one on the right the output

It is fast and impressive but don't let it teach anyone anytime soon.

Some people go to Cambridge to soak up the intense intellectual atmosphere. I go for the rainbow of notebooks. (❤️Cambridge Imprints) #academicsky

Bans on words like “female”, “disability” and even “safe drinking water” are part of escalating attacks on #DEI in US higher education.

This resource explores how staff can respond with resilience, creativity and care amid the hostility.

I was thinking more that the UK at least has a concept and a network of "sanctuary universities." This: "Together we are working to make Higher Education institutions places of safety, solidarity and empowerment for people seeking sanctuary."
Sometimes on a late summer evening I look up from a desk out on the edge of England and contemplate the wider world. Then I marvel at all the good all the scholars all around the world do every day for so many people. literally #academicsky
