I wish to cast every .heic file directly into the fires (files? haha) of Orodruin; it is for *precisely* this reason that I set Canvas to only accept pdfs

I am after this semester no longer recommending the iOS Notes app for producing pdfs because it produces fucking huge pdfs; this one I am looking at is 20.25 MB and 42" x 56"

This is good and we should say so because every outlet that does the right thing and sees praise and support for doing so makes it easier for the next outlet to do the same.

Friends, how do you report on your CV that you've participated on an NSF grant review panel? I know you can't say what grant program, but I think you can say which directorate; also, can you say when it was or is that too much information?

yearly reminder to people insisting that we view Christopher Columbus as "a man of his time" that *the people responsible for the Spanish Inquisition* thought Columbus was out of pocket

Christopher Columbus was dragged back to Spain in chains by a crusading knight, convicted of tyranny and immeasurable cruelty, pardoned by Isabella but banned from returning to Hispaniola.

Fuck Columbus.

Universities: We can't afford cost of living adjustments for faculty and staff, we have budget problems.

Also universities: Our football coach lost three games so we will pay him $50 million to go away

I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

Stamkos just got called for tripping and then was standing in the door of the box swearing at the refs in full HD, "that's a fucking joke," lol

Not for nothing but I'd be so mad if I showed somebody a cool problem/assignment I wrote and their first instinct was to drop it into ChatGPT for any reason whatsoever.

For reasons that I cannot describe even to myself, even though I use LaTeX on the daily in every other facet of my life, the idea of moving my CV to LaTeX inspires an immediate and reflexive "I don't want to and you can't make me" lol

No, which is both a blessing (those templates always suck) and a curse (I am just freeballing it and I can't blame anybody but myself)

Please do not use AI to grade. If demands on your time are such that you cannot provide students with timely and substantive feedback, that is a labor issue, and you should join your union. open.substack.com/pub/marcwatk...
