There's a new bot in town on #AO3 telling writers that AO3 is going to delete their works for breaking the rules. Do NOT heed this!

New speculation is that you can't prove deleted works were stolen by AI. Don't fall for it!

Credit to posters on r/AO3.

User 1: There's a theory already that this makes it easier for copyright infringers to steal fanfics because you can't prove the authorship of a deleted work. This is pure evil. Spread the word. p.s. The comments look something like this: *includes picture of an AO3 comment that reads* "Your story really stood out to me - it's heartfelt and thoughtfully written, a real pleasure to read. I just wanted to politely let you know about AO3's recent efforts to remove non-fanworks and deprecated fandom content to conserve server space. Since your fic is categorized under a deprecated fandom, moderators are expected to remove it and impose a month-long ban if author's don't comply. To protect your account, it might be wise to delete your work yourself before they take action. Just thought you'd want to be aware of this!"

User 1 continues: p.p.s There's no "new" policy that bans original works either. Everything that was allowed is still allowed. This is a "please read our TOS ffs" awareness campaign - not a surprise rugpull. Don't delete anything, please. It's an archive!

Ugh this sucks 🙃 i know even publishers were/are adding AI clauses in author contracts too, but that literary agents are fighting back against it.

Wow. Another fanfic writer i follow posted about how all her stories on AO3 were used to feed some AI thing as well, so I wonder if it was the same perpetrator. These thieves really need to be dealt with some serious consequences. Us writers get the short end of the stick when it comes to AI
