This #BlackHistoryMonth we’re celebrating Black Salvationists who made history 🖤 Joel Mbambo Matunjwa – first Zulu Salvationist; Cecil Walker – first Caribbean Major; Dorothy Purser – women’s health & education pioneer. Thanks to Café Hope, London, for this wonderful display!
Some survivors shared powerful testimonies, including Jennifer*: “The Salvation Army Employment Plus team helped me find the confidence and skills to secure my job. After working for years without pay, earning my own income has improved my mental and physical health.”

Dr April Shaw, working with The Salvation Army, says: "More groups like [these] ‘Let’s Talk Menopause’ sessions would give women space to discuss their symptoms and feelings during, what can be, a challenging time.” #WorldMenopauseDay #LetsTalkMenopause

In-person Menopause Awareness Sessions have already reached 100 women, helping them understand and manage symptoms. The programme has been so successful that on #WorldMenopauseDay, a special event was held to celebrate the impact of these sessions.

Menopause symptoms are often overlooked in people experiencing homelessness or addiction. Symptoms are misattributed to lifestyle rather than menopause, a situation known as ‘diagnostic overshadowing’. Our Scotland Homelessness Services team is tackling this issue head-on.

“I am priceless.” At The Salvation Army, we echo these words from a survivor of modern slavery — every life is beyond value. The true cost behind many bargains in the UK and Ireland may be the exploitation of another person through modern slavery.

This #AntiSlaveryDay, stand in solidarity with survivors and help raise awareness of this horrific crime – happening throughout the UK, 24/7, 365 days a year:
1️⃣ Download our social media toolkit and share content, tagging The Salvation Army
2️⃣ Be the Eyes That Save Lives by learning to spot the signs
Anti-Slavery Day falls on a Saturday this year, but many of the survivors we support were forced to work long hours, with no pay, every day of the week.

Their lives and those of their loved ones would be threatened if they tried to get help.
