I’m proud to serve alongside the most diverse group of legislators in our city’s history.

Alderwoman Velázquez’s leadership is helping build a more inclusive, forward-thinking St. Louis. The first of many Latinas to make history at the Board!

Daniela Velázquez: Trailblazing as St. Louis' first Latina elected official
"My goal from the beginning of the campaign was to be the first and not the last," Alderwoman Daniela Velázquez said.

My statement regarding the order that Sheriff Montgomery be taken into custody.
This afternoon, Sheriff Montgomery’s bond was revoked, and he was ordered by Judge Bodenhausen to be jailed pending his criminal trial. Given these circumstances, I cannot see a way for Sheriff Montgomery to perform his duties or regain the trust of City residents. I am urging him to resign from office so we can begin the process of appointing his replacement.

In preparation for possible resignation or removal, my team, members of the Public Safety Committee, and the Board’s legal counsel are working on resolutions that outline the application and selection processes for the interim sheriff and establish a date for a special election.

The Board of Aldermen takes its responsibility in this matter seriously and is committed to an open and transparent process that restores the public’s confidence in the Sheriff’s Office.
For centuries, the history and traditions of Indigenous peoples have been pushed to the margins.

Today, we honor the resilience of those who lived here long before it was renamed and who continue to make their homes in America.

Happy Indigenous Peoples' Day!
My statement regarding the Board of Aldermen’s decision to voluntarily recognize our staff’s unionization efforts.
The Trump administration isn’t fooling anyone. This isn’t about fairness; it’s about perpetuating centuries of injustice that have made it difficult for Black and Brown communities to get ahead.

In our current political environment, it’s hard to imagine that process would be anything but subjective.

From lived experiences to disparity studies—which give us the legal authority to enact our own MWBE programs—we know discrimination exists.

Asking minority contractors to prove they’ve been discriminated against is an impossible task. Let’s set aside for a moment whether a disadvantaged, minority-owned business could detail the economic harm they’ve suffered—who is evaluating that application?

Yesterday, the Planning Commission approved a new Sustainability & Climate Plan—our first since 2013.

In honor of that, I'd like to highlight some Speak Up, St. Louis submissions that align with those goals!

To reverse population decline, St. Louis needs to attract families. That will require public-private partnerships and the construction of affordable housing.

Thanks to the Affordable Housing Investors Council for having me, and thanks to Dara and Chris for a great conversation!
The BoA does not have jurisdiction over this project. It exists under a Chapter 353 Redevelopment Plan that was approved in 2017, giving the Midtown Redevelopment Corp. (under SLU) authority over the area.

That said, we are working with the Mayor's office on a regulatory framework for data centers.
THO Investments—the Armory data center developer—will hold two town halls on the project.

I'd also like to thank Alderwoman Schweitzer for her hard work and leadership on this issue. No matter where each of us stands, I'm proud of my colleagues for listening to one another and engaging in substantive debate.

This is a complex and multifaceted issue. An outright ban is not the solution, just as allowing data center construction without any guardrails is not the solution. We need to have robust conversations around the topic and build consensus.

In the meantime, City departments have five months to work together and recommend regulations to the Planning Commission. Those regulations will be translated into legislation for the Board of Aldermen to discuss and pass into law.

Resolution 111 signals the Board of Aldermen's support for Executive Order 92 which requires any data center project to provide detailed information when going through the conditional use process—giving residents a chance to weigh in.

The City Foundry is the anchor of one of St. Louis' most exciting neighborhoods.

What's been accomplished with what used to be a vacant industrial site is a testament to the success of people-focused development.

This week, I met with Paraquad to discuss how we can work together to increase accessibility in St. Louis.

Thanks to their staff for the warm welcome! I’m excited to continue working with them to deliver a St. Louis that works for everyone.

Thank you to everyone that took time out of their Wednesday to attend yesterday's committee hearing on data centers.

Policy should be informed by members of the community, not special interests.

At 3:30pm, the Public Infrastructure & Utilities Committee will meet to discuss Resolution 111, which calls for the City to set new regulations on data centers.

Over the last week, hundreds of people have taken to Speak Up, St. Louis to discuss data centers.

My office read through all the comments and compiled a report summarizing resident sentiment. Use this link to find the full report: stlouis.govocal.com/en/projects/...

Data centers are detrimental to the environment and drive up utility costs for the average resident—but they aren't going away.

In this issue of Deep Dive, I provide context on data centers and what the City is doing to regulate them.

Directing the National Guard to help ICE hunt people isn’t just un-American, it’s inhumane, and it won’t make Missouri safer. It’s telling that our governor is prepared to waste taxpayer money so ICE can spend more time terrorizing Black and Brown communities.
