… I love podcasts, btw. I’ve basically entirely sacrificed reading books in order to listen to as many possible. But haven’t really, don’t really, associate them as a news source. Quite the opposite, in fact - they’re a way to escape the daily churn of things happening/being said.

The third big-ish football story in a week - following Steven Gerrard calling the Golden Generation “egotistical losers” and Jim Ratcliffe saying Ruben Amorim will get three years - that has come from a podcast. This definitely feels like a thing. Something, something relaxed setting …

Millie Bright announces England retirement after winning 88 caps
* ‘It’s a feeling and I’m at peace with it,’ Bright says * She cites physical wellbeing and desire for more time Millie Bright has announced her retirement from international football on the eve of England’s squad announcement for friendlies against Brazil and Australia. The defender missed the team’s successful defence of their European Championship title last summer to look after her mental and physical health and revealed on Monday she would not be adding to her 88 England caps. “It’s a feeling and I’m at peace with it,” the 32-year-old said on her Rest is Football: Daly Brightness podcast. “Having the summer to reflect, fix my knee, and get my head straight really put things into perspective. Every single cap has been special and the memories I’ve made, especially with this one sat opposite me [Rachel Daly], have been some of the best of my life. But yeah, it’s time. It’s the right time for me to call it a day with England.” Continue reading...

… it’s a great movie, btw. Absolutely do watch it if you haven’t done so already. The stress is totally worth it.

Yep, it’s Uncut Gems. I literally almost threw up during the scene where Sandler is repeatedly trying to let Kevin Garnett into the jewellery store and repeatedly can’t.

… lots of lovely reflections by Clive but, for me, he was especially good on the here and now, specifically on the state of modern-day commentary. Couldn’t agree with him more on the fundamental failure of two-plus comms teams. You’re talking to yourselves and not us, lads.

Was a pleasure helming @sport.theguardian.com latest reader interview, especially as it meant speaking to the great Clive Tyldesley. Top man, iconic voice and really thoughtful and interesting responses to a range of questions, including one on Joni Mitchell.
