My favorite tracks of September are up on What's Good feat. Kate Bush, Geese, Sammy Virji, Joanne Robertson, Juana Molina, Night Tapes, Rochelle Jordan, Neko Case, Jeff Tweedy, JADE, RAYE, Moodymann, Chloé Caillet, Kieran Hebden x William Tyler & more shorturl.at/jGZmN
Wow, what a ton of great music in August! Just updated What's Good with my 32 faves including: Geese, Dijon, Ninajirachi, Dean Blunt x Elias Rønnenfelt, Nourished by Time, Susumu Yokota, Earl, Blood Orange, Deftones (!), Avalon Emerson, Overmono, Jens Lekman (!!), & more shorturl.at/jGZmN
Yessss, it's one of the funnest and most inventive rock records I've heard this year! Wild how they manage to synthesize bits of every popular genre — it's clubby, it's punky, it's indie. Like 80s new wave through a 2025 lens.
My favorite tracks of July are up on What's Good feat. Geese, james K, Gelli Haha, By Storm, Water From Your Eyes, Tyler the Creator, Madonna, NIN, Fever Ray, Nosaj Thing x Jacques Greene, Factory Floor, GOON, Burial, Sudan Archives, Sir Chloe & more shorturl.at/jGZmN
What's Good is back with June's best tracks.

My top 3: Gelli Haha's goofy glo-fi, a 90s Portishead throwback from Neggy Gemmy, and Underscores' digipop monster, "Music."

Plus: Nick León, james k, Sir Chloe, and archival cuts from Joni Mitchell & SOPHIE

Rest in power to the acid jazz OG, Roy Ayers. His rooftop concerts at Output always marked the first days of spring. Thanks for the memories— in the sunshine. ☀️

Thank YOU for this brief but wonderful tribute to Mojo. I discovered it this morning and was so moved that I spent much of the day reading your other entries. You are a truly gifted writer! www.jamesreeves.co/mojo/
The Electrifying Mojo Had the Most Reassuring Voice I Ever Heard
His spirit runs through nearly everything we hear today.

This 2001 Moodymann 12” goes crazy. It cuts up the Detroit radio DJ Mojo’s famed ‘86 interview with Prince, chopping the questions to sound like an interview with Moody. The beat beneath is murky and hard-hitting, then shifts into a lighter, jazzier Rhodes flex. 🔥

Yeah, that Uilab EP is great, too. Love the “St. Elmo’s Fire” cover.
I was able to get the vinyl cheap on Discogs — worth seeking out!
Spending a lot of time lately with this little-known Stereolab side project from 1997, a collaboration between Tim Gane, Andy Ramsay, and the High Llamas' Sean O'Hagan. Released just a month before 'Dots and Loops,' it applies some of that album's best qualities to a 'library music' setting.

Not both of us seeing that tour! I waited for two hours outside the backstage doors and got a hug. Felt like walking on a cloud. Laura Nyro could never.
Yesss, year-end coming soon. Might post another before that. Always keeping tabs here… Kind of the evaluating precursor to What’s Good. Sort by most recent. open.spotify.com/playlist/62X...
