SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARYDOOS?
Did you want the "founding member of the Whitlams" uncle, the "wrote a song played at the Sydney Olympics Opening Ceremony and now jams out with Reg Mombassa" uncle, or the "convicted felon and serial molester" uncle? I have so many uncles.
I don't need the lore behind your favorite posters... tell me about your uncles
Today’s “Anthony Albanese wearing Joy Division shirt makes him a Nazi apologist” news has strong “Benny Hill Bluesky Brouhaha” energy
I have reached my “politicians congratulate me for being alive” phase

Thinking today about Wa5ter, an old parkour buddy. He collapsed during a training sesh along Southbank in 2006ish and couldn't be revived. He was maybe 21, 22 years old?
I have no photos of him. All the forums we hung on have been deleted. There's no record he was ever here.
That doesn't feel right.
I’ll keep the anecdotes coming ❤️
Students: "Sir, sir! Nice hair, sir! Nice jacket! You think you look sharp, sir? Who're you trying to look good for, sir? Who're you trying to impress?"
Me, blanking: "...Me. I look good for me. You've got to find value in yourselves, boys."
Students: "...awwww, true sir, true. Wisdom."
First full month living with solar + battery. We spent just 46.8c on electricity from the grid. Feels good!
My goal was 80k by the end of September. Just squeaked through!
Told the nurse at the Red Cross I was hoping to break the five minute barrier for blood donation (previous PB: 5:07) and ended up with multiple staff around my chair going AWWWW NOOOOO when I came in at 5:05.
Anyway.
Give blood!
Have now hit or exceeded my goals four days in a row, LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOO
School holidays kicked off today which means I’m sprinting to get all the big chunks of this secret novel project in place before teaching resumes in 2 weeks. I need to hit 2500 words a day, every day.
Wish me luck.
(Already got today’s words done but it was a scene I’d been thinking about for weeks; tomorrow will be a lot harder)

One of my responses to the reading-difficulty conversation is: if you want to do anything with theory whatsoever you’ve gotta get comfortable feeling like you got hit with a rock on first reading. It’s a good and healthy and *pleasurable* thing to strive to meet a text where it’s at!!

Student: Sir, are you wasian?
Me,: No, I'm not wasian
Student: Lee in the other class said you were wasian
Me: Lee is mistaken
Student: Then why are your eyes so small?
Student 2: You can't say that, that's so racist
Student 1: I can't be racist, I'm Vietnamese
Me, sobbing: please do your calculus
