like how the valuations of a few dozen utility corporations are increasingly tied directly to the ai data center AND fossil fuel industries' demand forecasts, resulting in a triple linkage across most of the global economy as we know it, in which a crash would slam every community into an emergency?

is anyone else thinking obsessively about the ramifications of the ai data center boom mind-melding with the fossil fuel industry elite or is that just me

Vought has blocked CFPB staff from doing their work, and is also charging CFPB $5 million for his bodyguards. So technically, they are protecting one consumer.

Latest tracking update on, among other things, how many times judges (of both parties) have called out DOJ lawyers for what most folks would call lying. Some rules of professional legal ethics are unclear or complex. The RPC 3.3 'There's-no-lying-in-law' rule isn't one of them.

Now updated: The 'Presumption of Regularity' study.

1. Noncompliance with judicial orders: 20 cases
2. Courts’ distrust of DOJ information: 43+ cases
3. Courts’ findings of “arbitrary and capricious” conduct: 58 cases

Drilled was asked to promote a new pro-nuclear book. When we found it contained a conspiracy alleging the oil industry funded environmental groups to kill the nuclear industry -- and that it didn't stack up -- it turned into an investigation.

New from me in @drilledmedia.bsky.social:
Isabella Boemeke Isn’t Trying to Spread Conspiracy Theories in her New Pro-Nuclear Book, But She Is
Pro-nuclear influencer Isabelle Boemeke’s new book, Rad Future, indulges in conspiracy theories, unsourced claims, and personal attacks against the industry’s critics.

If it cannot, what must be done?

Thousands of posts from a private Young Republican Telegram chat reveal a culture of casual racism/antisemitism, rape jokes and celebration of Hitler/Nazism.

Some of the ringleaders are below: We live in a world where 4chan types now occupy positions of real power.

Everyone agrees that we're currently in a dotcom era-like AI bubble. People disagree what sort of bubble it is.

There are 3 stories one can tell about the dotcom crash: a startup story, a telecom story, and an accounting fraud story.

My take: it's giving Enron

Also I am a Reedie who was one of several deeply involved in EF! during that era.
rsgreacen.bsky.social
😂 those were all Reedies a year or two behind me, I can still name several of them
rsgreacen.bsky.social
All true, and your observations about indirection and the obnoxiousness insulator especially acute.

My point was primarily that Reed has punched way above its weight in cultural production to Portland’s political culture of resistance.

As significant as KBOO but delighting in a kind of obscurity.

Sanity says: “if there is a risk that the AMOC is weakening and heading towards a tipping point, we need to act on that (just like with other major risks). This is not an issue where we can afford to wait until we are certain, or pretend it’s just an academic discussion without major consequences.”

Good video clip there of Igor Vamos, then Reedie, more recently one of the Yes Men, who conceived and executed a whole series of great protest stunts

(Mining the Willamette with ersatz floating bombs was my favorite)

What The Hell Is Going On, a thread:

I’ve seen some thinkpieces and posts about Portland protests that fail to understand the long-term hyperspecificity of Portland culture/humor, and frame it as a sort of shitposting meme-pilled ironic thing. Which is wrong.

So I’m gonna give you my breakdown.
