If these tariffs and duties stay, it won’t just be our forest workers who feel it.

It will be American families, as home prices increase. Because softwood is essential to US homebuilding, and this tariffs are driving up the cost.

Ask the US National Homebuilders Assoc.

I sat down to join CBC Power and Politics on the air. Because this is a critical moment for #ForestryBC.

Our priority will be supporting workers, and pushing Ottawa for the same.

But Trump is dead wrong if he thinks that means we won’t fight back against this absurdity.

#BCForests
The US has placed higher tariffs on our lumber than Russian lumber.

Supporting Russian mills while our workers feel the strain. It is unacceptable and unjustified.

We’re going to support the sector in every way we can - by diversifying trade, by creating supports.

#ForestryBC
First Nations are at the centre of #ForestryBC. They’ve been leading forest stewardship since time immemorial.

At a critical time, coming together like this is what we must do. To align our priorities, and act on them. Together.

An entire sector is on the line - thousands of workers, families, communities.

We’re standing alongside industry, to make the case to Ottawa. People depend on this sector. They rely on it.

And they need support now. Join us in this fight for forestry.

The two global leaders in softwood lumber: BC… and Russia.

If Trump stands by these tariffs, he’s choosing to side with Russia. He’s supporting their forest sector, while mills in Canada - an ally and neighbour - begin to suffer.

#ForestryBC #BCpoli
Canadian lumber built the roofs over American families. But now, according to Trump, it’s a national security risk…

This economic attack is a major blow to our sector.

But we’re coming together - industry, First Nations, and government. And we’re fighting back.

Alongside Scott Lunny from USW District 3 and Gavin McGarrigle of UNIFOR, the Premier is leading a united stand.

As Trump tries to use our workers as leverage, we’re going to do everything in our power to back them.

Let’s send a clear message down south.

#ForestryBC #bcpoli
When workers are struggling, it’s on us to step up. To create supports for them and their families.

My message to forest workers: I’m going to fight like hell for your livelihoods. I will not sit by as Trump wages war on your bottom line.

#BCForestry #bcpoli
President Trump’s absurd Section 232 tariffs on our softwood lumber, timber & wood products are a direct attack on workers, families, and communities across BC.

They don’t just hurt us, they raise housing costs for American families and help competitors like Russia.

Bill 17 is about protecting people from total violation of their privacy.

At home in Langford-Highlands, the White Hatter has been leading the effort to educate and work with people on this very topic.

This wouldn’t be possible without local leadership like theirs.

We know communities are feeling the impact of global economic uncertainty and big challenges.

Despite these pressures, B.C.'s economy remains resilient. In Sept:

✅Employment up 7,800
✅48,600 jobs gained yr/yr
✅25,000 private sector jobs, leading all provinces

Intimate image leaks are a form of sexualized violence.

When it happens, you deserve access to justice without high costs and long waits.

Bill 17 creates better compensation and stronger privacy protections for victims of intimate image leaks.

200,000 people rely directly on forestry.

And you can imagine how many rely indirectly - entire towns across Canada that wouldn’t exist without forestry.

We know too well in BC, just how important the sector is.

We need the federal govt to step up.

#ForestryBC #cdnpoli
You might recognize him. I sure do - former Forests Minister (and my former boss) Doug Donaldson.

We sat down to talk wildfire, and community resilience. Because this new reality for BC requires year-round preparation. The work can never stop.

Thanks, Doug.

COFI has announced the 2025 forestry scholarship recipients. The next generation of leaders for the sector who’ll ensure it thrives into the future.

They will be at the forefront of forestry - from wildfire resilience, to wood manufacturing.

Congratulations!

#ForestryBC
The choice is clear, President Trump: Russia or BC. Who do you want your softwood lumber from?

The US relies on our lumber to build homes, yet tariffs completely slow construction (and give Russia a pass).

Our message: fair trade with your closest ally is common sense.

#bcpoli
BC is growing. We’re the engine of Canada’s new economy. That means more major infrastructure projects, more housing.

Our construction sector needs certainty they will be paid fairly, on-time. Bill 20 does that. Supporting workers & their work.

At home in Langford, families have been calling for affordable child care in schools. It’s a need, not a want.

So we’re working to bring child care spaces into our schools.

Using what we already have, and working with parents and districts, ensuring a smooth system.

#bcpoli
Thanks to COFI for coming to speak with govt about the challenges facing our sector.

Tough days are ahead, no question, but by working together we can protect jobs, support workers, and build a stronger, more resilient future for forestry in BC.

A brand new 17-storey student residence is coming to UVic. 510 beds right on campus.

A $121M provincial investment, giving students access to affordable housing close to where they study, learn, and build their lives.

When we invest in students, we invest in our future. #bced #PostSecondaryBC
Funding is now available for farmers and ranchers in BC to prepare for extreme weather.

The Beneficial Management Practices program includes funding for FireSmart projects to protect livestock and structures for wildfire season.

Big news for B.C. families 💙

Today, I introduced legislation that will make it easier for school districts to offer #ChildCareOnSchoolGrounds — so parents can find quality care in the same safe, familiar places where their kids learn & grow.

Good to spend some time with woodlot owners from the Northeast — hardworking people who care deeply about stewardship, local jobs, and the future of our forests.
