This particular boss is more on the latter end since you have to do a bit of a dark souls corpse run and then fight a long gauntlet first, but the elements that elevate it to lifedraining are more nuanced, like in the way some enemies target or telegraph their attacks.

At first I just thought Silksong was mean; I'm fine with mean, I did Path of Pain and all. But after Groal, I'm starting to think this game is just *rude*, and it's starting to rank under HK in my book.

level drain is like a very specific porn niche and it's always so unrealistic like "oh the hero loses a level and the succubus gains one" thats not how that works. thats not how that works. if the hero is like level 95 and the succubus is level 1 stealing one level would get her to like 30 at least

the really neat thing to me about knights of guinevere porn is that artists are just verbatim copying the way she smiles and it translates perfectly well as like, the way a stripper or a prostitute smiles at you. it's so fitting as a facade that it's almost like, ironic, meta commentary.

A lil clunky to put into words but basically I want the foretelling flavor of library-snooping over the telepathy of hand-peeking.
also agreed, is the same problem with fateseal to an extent but I don't wanna directly hurt opponents too much. again why I like the implicit info broker aspect too.

yeah resolution time is prolly the real killer here. maybe there's an angle to something like making all players play with the top of their library revealed? but at the same time I really enjoy the idea of the Violet player basically running with a sort of metagame modifier of extra hidden hand info

plus my campaign kinda follows a conceit that's like - gems are immune to poison, but there are still things poisonous to gems. if there were reprints in the diamantaires set, they'd be very gem-centric.
I think the biggest loss is just with Shatter.

this is a bit for @dogmaazul.bsky.social since she did the other gem cards, but basically it's due to our fantasy of a whole set for the campaign, making all gems artifacts feels a bit saturating.
maybe this could be a fun tweak for the ancient gems in our setting though, to reflect their otherness
