I have a catastrophic number of tiny lil facts and stuff about GTA. it's bad

Anyway here's a destructible variant of the prison entrance gate. As far as I know it is completely unused, but nonetheless very functional when spawned in.

(repost because buffer didn't include the video?)
Extra low effort post of the day:
The first 2 LODs for the Winery has its sign as "Winery Sign"
An artist portfolio revealed a number of scrapped UI screens that were intended for the original form of GTA Online, Cops n Crooks.
(Note: this is different from what was being made in 2020)

You can view the individual frames on this crappy gallery I generated: l7y.media/galleries/ui...

Additionally there was this in a control configuration file suggesting qub3d was to be part of that same update, naming the update outright.
It would've been a whole new arcadey mode with it's own lobbies. The pieces we've gotten aren't much like what it would've been.
The 2020 summer update was going to be the Cops n Crooks update. Due to the political climate surrounding police then it was canned. Very few remnants of the update made it then but one of them was these award types in the celebration UI.
This isn't a new discovery, but I haven't seen it discussed much outside of a reddit post or a small article on it (which is where these images are sourced from fyi).
Of note is this describing the assets as "old" even back then.
In the 2023 GTA 5 source leak, a number of documents were included.
One was about the design of the games seabed, and in it there was a lot of screenshots from Rockstar's scrapped game "Agent" (codenamed jimmy) as references or for reusing assets from it.
The melee only fact is further backed by the presence of unused strings including "Take down the IAA officers" and the fact that, based on the floating glass shards an object of some sort (perhaps the chair in the same room) was likely used to smash the window instead of a weapon
GTA 5 has an unused destruction sim for the Dead Man Walking mission.
In the final version, you simply shoot out the glass.
In the cut version, it seems that Michael smashed it with an object.
Those animations sadly no longer exist.
The mission seemed to have been intended to be melee only.
In GTA Online there are a few reasons you can be kicked.
- Being a cheater
- By other players
and"The session you were spectating is being assessed by Rockstar with a view to broadcasting this as an Online TV Channel"
AFAIK this had no real usage but was abused by hackers in 2017
Quick rundown of the upcoming Mansions:
- 3 teaser missions coming sometime soon.
- Completing the missions will unlock a discount.
- In world teasers in the form of 2 construction sites.
- Valentina, a character in the intro cutscene mentioning real estate is most likely involved.
Today in low effort fun facts:
The FIB UFO in GTA 5 is named "p_spinning_anus" for reasons I simply do not know.
An HD, and much less sped up version of this video can be watched on YouTube youtu.be/9k93IURgqys
In the description is more information for those curious.

Follow up to the Father/Son cinematic camera post:
You can only use the camera at certain points, and only see through 1 at a time, but the recordings cover the whole chase.
Here's both the views throughout the whole chase, + the vehicle recording used on your car while viewing.
the speed of the cinematic cameras as needed. Only one is viewed from at a time but they are switched between at fixed points in the chase.

This is a repost of a discovery I made on my personal account that predated this account. x.com/LucasIsPerso...

Why this way? Rockstar has means to animate cameras, but the speed of the chase varies based on how close the player is to it.
Rockstar doesn't have means in the script functions to speed up/slow down a camera animation.
Doing it this way lets them ramp up/down [cont]
In the GTA5 story mode mission Father/Son there is a cinematic view during the chase.
To animate that view during the chase, they spawn 2 trucks, make them invisible, attach cameras to them and run "Vehicle Recordings" on the trucks.
Unhiding them produces this amusing result:

Here's a bigger montage of interesting off camera bits and bobs in various scenes throughout GTA 5 and GTA Online.
Lots of T Poses, off camera "that's a wrap" celebrations and other goodies.
I don't think i've ever highlighted the leftover test cutscenes in the files.
Here's the intriguing ones with their names.

Can you tell I know a bit much about cutscenes yet? :p
I can't do polls here so I can't meaningfully mirror the Twitter post womp
Bonus bit: while briefly looking for other cutscenes that do this I found two simeons.
One model is the cutscene model, one is the in game model, they swap them during a camera cut but this is like the one cutscene the other is visible during (off camera)
On the topic of cutscenes, Rockstar generally has traffic disabled in cutscenes, so if they have a scene next to a road they have to hand animate traffic.
This can look pretty funky when you move the camera beyond where its meant to be.
(For those who don't know, in performance capture they t-pose as a known position so that the software can match the individual tracking points to their body reliably.)
Rockstar continues their habit of off camera t-poses in GTA Online cutscenes.
Clapping at this bit too interestingly, I wouldn't think they'd shoot the car stuff last or clap for minor scenes...
You can also see they even motion capture the car doors (or atleast the players one)
