Its an ego-thing just as-much as a social-anxiety/fear of rejection/judgement thing. Anything creative is personal and takes time+dedication to get good at, last thing you want is someone criticizing your effort for something you're doing because YOU wanted to make something.

This is literally the one of the main mechanisms of what identifies ADHD
You can already mess it up from being stressed, not enough sleep, not enough exersize, and poor diet, also ADHD people (like me) have to be even more careful about that shit just cus its so much easier to screw everything up.

True, and those are major general factors, but badly-adjusted abusive parenting is still rooted in major mental health issues regardless of "era". Its 50/50 nature/nurture anyway, but theres still the choice to be ignorant of empathy, even if its something theyre "used"-to.

This week in 1988: 1,000+ ACT UP demonstrators shut down the FDA headquarters, demanding (and eventually winning) action on developing HIV/AIDS treatments. ACT UP's militant and creative actions always included powerful visual artwork, and paved the way for movements in the decades to come.

A photograph from the 1988 ACT UP demonstration outside the FDA. Many people are participating in a die-in on the front steps, holding mock tombstones with messages like "RIP - killed by the FDA" and "Dead from lack of drugs."
