“The Chair Company,” which is as Tim Robinson a thing as any other Tim Robinson thing, is also HBO’s most watched comedy series premiere since 2020. (There haven’t been a ton of new HBO comedies in that time, but still)

Fellow Sunday night show ‘Task’ is also putting up solid numbers.

I think it’s from The Beast in Me on Netflix
And of course if this show progresses long enough for Harry’s daughter to be born, the episode where she’s introduced absolutely has to be called that. (I know in Connelly’s books he doesn’t know she exists till several years after she’s born, but still)
Unfortunately, yeah. I also think about the franchise wars a lot in re streaming services.
That too, though the future false utopia setting removes it a little bit from the post-Rodney King environment that pretty clearly inspired/influenced the others.
The mid-90s had a whole run of LA-is-hell movies (Falling Down, Volcano, Escape From LA among them) in the same way there were a bunch of New York-is-hell movies in the late 70s/early 80s. “Strange Days” is the best and most interesting of the LA batch by a good distance.
It's about time Strange Days finally begins getting the retrospective love and respect it deserves. To me, it's the best pre-Matrix cyberpunk film other than Blade Runner and Robocop, and still better than most cyberpunk films made since.

30 years ago, Katherine Bigelow made a sci-fi flop that changed her career for the better
Strange Days is a noir-soaked science-fiction thriller set against a backdrop of racial tension, police brutality, sexual assault, and disruptive tech

In retrospect, yes. I was thinking they’d lean more heavily on Music City stuff for the premiere, but I also should’ve known that “restraint” and “911” do not go together in any way.
But the copy I cropped out below the poster just says “Apple TV.” Great job guys, excellent rollout, well done all around.
Did whoever decided to drop the + from Apple TV+ tell anyone else at the company? This is from my inbox just now, and while it’s not directly from Apple, it’s uh still got the plus sign.

Over here still thinking about @emilystjams.bsky.social ’s “Woodworking,” which I had put aside for a while not wanting to leave the wonderfully realized characters behind. That was silly, I now know, having finished it and realizing they’re gonna be with me for a good while.
Went there semi-frequently as a kid, and from what I remember it was always pretty solid and a little less sterile-feeling than other similar chains. Really good pie too, in addition to the chocolate cake.
This is one hell of a Friday evening news dump btw.
“Dancing With the Stars” is on pace to be the first (non-sports) network show in FIVE YEARS to average a ≥ 1.0 rating in adults 18-49 for its first airing (ie, no streaming or DVR). In a time when most shows get half or more of their 18-49s from streaming, that’s kind of remarkable.
TV Ratings: ‘Dancing With the Stars’ on a Hot Streak to Start Season 34
The show has grown its first-night audience for three consecutive weeks.

A few of my college friends invented a shot that was half Jaeger, half Rumple Minze. It was vile, but it did the job fast.

Leonardo DiCaprio is circling to star but read which actors Michael Mann has been meeting with for HEAT 2 (one name rhymes with Shmutler). Time will tell soon enough which ones will ultimately get offers and board.
