I keep telling you it's never been just a protest party. That's a false perception that will change as the Greens become more popular and well known.

But what should their name be? You said you don't know or care, but you keep making this point, so you must have thought about it and have an opinion

The Green Party is not a single-issue party and never has been. They have policies on the full range of social and economic issues as well as on environmental sustainability. Green parties in some countries have been in government. The name is no more of a pigeonhole than Labour or Liberal etc.

They have AV and STV in Australia, I think, plus compulsory voting. In UK elections, we just have FPTP, not PR, so it's all geographically based.

I'd say being in governments shows Greens can reach beyond their base.

Green is no more of a pigeonhole than Labour, Socialist, Conservative or Liberal.

I don't think the "greenie" stereotype has been true for...many years, but you have just put your finger on exactly what Zack Polanski’s leadership campaign was all about!

Green has been the standard term for naming ecological parties for decades. It hasn't prevented some of them from being in national governments. What do you suggest they all change their names to?

On policy, you can read their manifesto online. greenparty.org.uk/about/our-ma...

The Labour Party famously remained a fringe party due to only having policies on workers' rights. 😉

I see. Well, I don't think we can afford to wait around for proportional representation before starting to do something about climate breakdown, biodiversity loss and inequality, so I vote Green whenever possible.

I know the right of the party sees it differently, but Labour is supposed to be a democratic party, where debate takes place and members are allowed to criticise and disagree with its political direction. Is that what you mean by "sniping"?

Owen Jones left Labour last year before the general election to support Green and left-wing independent candidates. He joined aged 15. That's not fickle. That's his entire adult life and more in the party. But of course he has the right to a change of heart as we all do.

A World Cup preying on Fomo: Fifa’s 2026 ticket scheme is a late-capitalist hellscape

Dynamic pricing, crypto detritus and corporate doublespeak have made the task of buying 2026 World Cup tickets a grim case study in the monetisation of emotion
