“Our hearts are restless until they rest in thee,” wrote Augustine about the divine.
“Which one?” I thought this morning.
I live in a time and place where Jesus has become Mars

Spirituality for Times Like This arose as my response to 3 events in my life.

Seems like a good day for these words. Peace
Here’s all you need to know.

"They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made."
I finally read Kazantzakis’ novel a year ago. Fascinating the back stories he crafted as well as the aura of mystery. And yes, a co-worker told me I was going to hell for seeing it in the theater when it came out.
If you’re overwhelmed as I am, please consider this reading group. Growing awareness of soul and spirit in community buffers the evil of inhumanity in ourselves and others. Peace
“The cruelty is the point” is something I hear often describing our times. Still, inhumanity violates divine spirit and soul, collectively and individually. Nothing will improve or become great.
Sing it, sister! Stupid shit.
Responsibility is on every individual to safeguard their relationship to evil.

We recognize beauty when we’re in touch with our humanity. According to some theologians, divine beauty is the complex harmony of diverse adaption. Beauty isn’t homogeneity and is the opposite of chaos. Please consider joining me to shape these times from the inside out.
Clarissa Pinkola Estés shared Explaining Evil in 2002 in the aftermath of 9/11. Here we are and so it goes.
Her evergreen words guide us now.

Recommend highly - for anyone seeking spiritual accompaniment and especially for transfolks sorting out a complicated relationship to spirit:
Personal spiritual awareness has an impact on ourselves and the outer world. In our trying times such capacities are on the side of life.

The lengths we used to go to find something we heard.
Saw it yesterday. I liked it but I get the criticism of it. Even as Bruce has shared details of his mental health he and Jon Landau carefully control his story. Someday a biopic that goes beneath the surface could be made. Or not. But, “In this office, my office, we believe in Bruce Springsteen.”

That class and this book freed and birthed my spiritual and religious imagination. Grateful, still.
Kermode writes, "The pleasures of interpretation are henceforth linked to loss and disappointment, so that most of us will find the task too hard, or simply repugnant; and then, abandoning meaning, we slip back into the old comfortable fictions of transparency, the single sense, the truth."
I retrieved boxes of my books from the attic above my garage and re-read this one for the first time since Truth and Meaning class in seminary with Dr. Don Juel in the winter of 1993.
I remember Juel said, "I find Kermode damn irritating because he's so right."
