In New York, ICE pushed journalists from an elevator and shoved them to the floor, hospitalizing one. Their only crime was attempting to do their job and document the arrest of immigrants who were abiding by the law and attending their court hearings. 6/6

In Portland, ICE agents sprayed pepper spray at protesters who were not engaging in any physical confrontation with officers, including spraying directly into the air vent of a costume and into a woman’s face from just a couple feet away. 5/6

In May, ICE agents stormed into our beloved Buona Forchetta, threw the owner against the wall, handcuffed all employees and used flash-bang grenades on community members. Their tactics are only getting more aggressive and cruel. A 🧵on recent dangerous uses of force by federal agents.

On Friday, I visited STEP and talked about their work to ensure military families have the help they need during the shutdown. I was happy to bring diapers for their free diaper distribution event and my take-home salary from this week to support their efforts.

Because of the shutdown, the IRS furloughed half its workforce, but mostly customer service staff while still implementing President Trump’s tax cuts that overwhelmingly benefit the wealthiest Americans. That means anyone who owes taxes gets a break and anyone who is due a refund is out of luck.

Federal employees keep us safe and keep the country running smoothly. It’s day 1 of the shutdown and President Trump is talking about using it to punish Democrats and fire critical people. He’s wasting time and resources and it’s the opposite of what Americans deserve right now.

President Trump - the self proclaimed “deal maker” - knew government funding would run out on Sept. 30. He knew Americans would get notices today that their healthcare bills will go up because of the “Big Beautiful Bill” written & passed by Republicans. Delaying a funding bill now is unacceptable.
