That's definitely true, but it is about cost. education institutions run on tight budgets, so they have to make value priority decisions. Right now the edu canvas system is down.

I paid $700/KW for LiFePo4 48V stationary batteries, quite some time ago. Today's price re $200ish/KW. Sodium may be $20/KW. Big difference.

The internet was originally designed to survive a land war, having widely physically distributed alternate connections and auto-rerouting. It may have started that way but certainly did not end up like that. There are deliberate pinch points designed to let the feds commandeer the network.
