The Nobel Peace Prize was won by one of the worst war criminals of the 20th century.

The year was 1973.

His name was Henry Kissinger.

This is his thread of shame.

This highly acclimated prize is steeped in blood and destruction. The award was made by the donation of moneys made from the sale of explosives perfected by Alfred Nobel.

Time to replace the so-called Peace Prize with a Nonviolence Prize - only those who demonstrate commitment to nonviolence can win.

No more war-mongers being given peace prizes.

Few prizes have captured the disgusting hypocrisy of power like this one.

The man who helped unleash mass death and dictatorship was honoured for peace.

And the world learned a grim truth: sometimes the worst crimes come dressed in diplomacy.
redhotworld.bsky.social
By the time Kissinger collected his “Peace Prize”, he had:
• Bombed Cambodia in secret
• Helped prolong the Vietnam War
• Backed genocide in Bangladesh
• Undermined democracy in Chile

Two Nobel committee members resigned in protest. Kissinger’s co-laureate, Lê Đức Thọ, refused the prize altogether.

Three years later, Allende was dead, Chile’s democracy was crushed, and Pinochet’s brutal dictatorship began.

Tens of thousands were tortured, disappeared, executed.

Kissinger said “I don’t see why we need to stand by and watch a country go communist due to the irresponsibility of its own people.”
redhotworld.bsky.social
Then came Chile.

When Chileans elected the socialist Salvador Allende in 1970, Kissinger approved a plan to destabilise the country and “make the economy scream”.

The goal: pave the way for a military coup.

One US cable called it “selective genocide”. Kissinger dismissed the reports as “bleeding hearts.”

When India intervened to stop the slaughter, he and Nixon condemned India. All because they wanted to protect their Cold War alliance with Pakistan.

Then came Bangladesh.

In 1971, Pakistan’s military carried out a genocidal campaign against the Bengali independence movement, massacring up to 3 million people and driving 10 million refugees into India.

US diplomats on the ground begged Washington to act. Kissinger and Nixon backed the killers.

Kissinger helped prolong the Vietnam War for political gain.

In 1968, while peace talks were underway, he secretly leaked details to Nixon’s campaign - helping sabotage the talks to boost Nixon’s election chances.

The war dragged on for years. Hundreds of thousands more died.

As Nixon’s National Security Adviser, Kissinger orchestrated secret US carpet bombing of Cambodia.

Hundreds of thousands of civilians were killed. Entire villages wiped off the map - without the American public even being told the war had spread there.

“We’re fighting for a country where no-one is left behind, and no future is sacrificed for the convenience of the present.”

@zackpolanski.bsky.social might just be the best thing to happen to British politics in years.
redhotworld.bsky.social
Zack’s rise signals more than just a new party leader.

It’s the return of a politics that’s bold, hopeful and rooted in fairness.

He wants to turn the Greens from the country’s moral conscience into a real political force - and he’s off to a flying start.
redhotworld.bsky.social
Of course, the obstacles are big.

Britain’s first-past-the-post system punishes smaller parties.

The Greens still rely on small donations - by choice. They won't be corrupted by billionaires.

But something’s shifting - and everyone can feel it.
redhotworld.bsky.social
Zack is unafraid of confrontation - taking on Reform UK’s far right populism head-on, while warning Labour: “We’re not here to be disappointed by you. We’re here to replace you.”

But he’s also open to working with other parties - Jeremy Corbyn and Your Party for example.

He’s on #BBCQT tonight. Prediction: he will be a regular guest going forward because he’s a gifted communicator with interesting things to say (hate to say it but also true of Nigel Farage).

The Greens went from one MP to four at the last election, but what’s arguably more significant is the platform they have in the media and on social media. Zack knows how to use that platform.

And he knows how to deal with the billionaire media - by not taking any of their shit.
redhotworld.bsky.social
Under his leadership, the Greens are proudly radical.

They’re explaining why we need to tax extreme wealth, renationalise energy, build council homes, invest in green jobs and provide free childcare.

It’s a politics of fairness and survival, not moral superiority.
redhotworld.bsky.social
Zack calls his politics eco-populism - connecting the climate crisis with inequality, housing and the cost of living.

Clean air, secure work, affordable homes - that’s what climate policy means in practice.
redhotworld.bsky.social
Elected to the London Assembly in 2021, then deputy leader, Zack won the leadership this year with a huge 84% of the vote.

His message: now’s the time for the Greens to be bolder, louder and more confident.

“Bold action, bold leadership. The super-rich must pay their share.”
redhotworld.bsky.social
Before politics, Zack did everything from acting and youth work to counselling and community organising.

That background - precarious, real, human - still shapes his politics. He talks about housing, wages, mental health and belonging with lived experience.
redhotworld.bsky.social
Zack was born in Salford in 1982 to a Jewish family that had changed its name to escape antisemitism.

At 18, he decided to reclaim his heritage, taking back the name Polanski, and choosing Zack after a character in Goodnight Mister Tom. It was personal and political.
redhotworld.bsky.social
How does he do it? By clearly communicating what he believes is right. By having the courage of his convictions.

It shouldn’t be revolutionary, but it is.
