To the Future 2020 oil on canvas.

A self portrait by way of introduction. I painted this in spring/summer 2020 in lockdown. I was on my own and found the experience isolating but also somewhat liberating in part. This painting explores the anxiety and loneliness I felt.
Self portrait painting of the artist Rebecca Foster looking directly at the viewer, her back reflected in a bathroom mirror. She is wearing a Back to the Future t shirt

Thank you! I wasn't sure how to finish the painting but I really enjoyed the shadow

Adored painting this portrait. I don't often get the chance to paint larger commissions so it was a lovely thing to be asked to do.
Oil on linen. 130 x 85cm

This is such a clever idea on taking kids to museums/galleries
www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...
Nadia from London has an idea that sounds such fun you'll be booking a day out asap.
"I've always loved museums," she says,
"but they can be overwhelming for children. For decades now, I've done something called 'playing postcards'
We do
the museum backwards, visiting the gift shop first. Each child gets to choose three postcards. Then they take it in turns to find that particular artwork in the museum and give us a little information about the piece from the details on the postcard, or from any gallery plaque. At the end of this treasure-hunt-style activity, we vote for our favourite in the cafe."

'Portrait of a Girl.' (1904) From early in his career, Ian Strang was recognized as a brilliant draughtsman. He was much admired for his portrait drawings, inspired by those of Hans Holbein in the Royal Library at Windsor Castle.

A portrait painting is something that can be passed down through generations. They don't have to be huge or imposing. I love doing smaller intimate commissions like this which are more affordable but just as beautiful. I have space coming up in November. Website is best place to contact me!

Mathew. Oil on linen.
This is still my favourite composition. At first I was really scared of painting the background black and I didn't know how to balance the two halves of the painting - but I decided to go for it and see what happened.

'Miss Collins.' (1924) William Beckwith McInnes won the Archibald Prize (Australia's prestigious award for portraiture) seven times. Writing in defence of his style of realism: 'in Australia we have not been bitten by Cubism or Futurism or other isms … and I am glad of it'.

Its hard to say really in terms of hours as I painted it quite a while ago now. Maybe 30 or 40. Something like that. I painted it over roughly 10 days (just looked at my progress shots!)

To-night I am going to clean my briefcase again, and then perhaps go to the discotheque and have an early night I hope.

In 1916, Edvard Munch bought a property known as Ekely in the town of Skøyen, near present-day Oslo. The two-story villa served as his house and studio, becoming for Munch what Giverny was for Monet. This self-portrait was painted while he was visiting Bergen for an exhibition.
